I'm going to assume, after 35 years at Chrysler, you are receiving a pension to supplement any other income. And based on that tell you that's one of the most successful ways to be satisfied with truckin'.

You may be more inclined NOT to run the BIG miles, just to make ends meet. Slow and easy.
Or a dedicated account.

I doubt I have to tell you how big Schneider is in the Dairy State.
And, when I was driving for Schneider, I was told that Schneider likes your age group. I was in Green Bay at the time going through driver trainer training at the --- there were several other Schneider instructors present when we were told that, and no one disagreed.

I would be surprised is Schneider doesn't want to talk to you.
Unless they're not hiring/training at that time.
But I'd keep calling.
I recommend Schneider as a better than average training company, and a good company to remain with for a few years or more.

 

I live in the Lowcountry of SC, about 30 minutes from Myrtle Beach, and about 20 minutes from I95. I am wondering if anyone knows if Schneider hires people from this area. I am looking for a career change, and this has always been a dream of mine. I already know how to back, as I was a yard jockey part time for a nationwide company. I just don't have my CDL and they have a training site relatively close in Charlotte.

 

Didn't know Schneider looked for older drivers... good to know. I'm 57.

 

You live close to one of the busiest highway corridors in the United States and you are relatively close to Charlotte. That will be good for a potential truck driver. Good luck

 

Being that the average driver is in their 50's your just about perfect

 

Which is scary when you think of the fact that the average life span of a trucker is 50.

This was mentioned by a Dr. guest on the Dave Nemo show a couple of months back during one of his medical segments. Due to the lifestyle of the truck driver (eating and exercise habits are a big factor)...etc.

 

So the avg. trucker is dead then? Or just feels like it at the end of the day?
