Are you saying 2 days off a week is not enough because
It will cut out your car hobby.
If so, don't waste any OTR trucking companies time.
Get a local job if that's not enough.

I would be amazed if you can find any company OTR that gives a starting driver a guaranteed two days off a week. If your hobby is your priority this may not be the right line of work.
If it were me I would go to as many local companies as I could find and try to get my experience that way. Construction contractors, local delivery, milk haulers, aggregate suppliers...... I think that this is what JD was hinting at. And, I would jump all over any shift or schedule that they offered, and be available 24/7.
Personally I would rather train the RIGHT individual with no experience than hire a good share of "experienced" drivers.
Good luck.Highway Sailor, snowman_w900, MJ1657 and 1 other person Thank this. -
No. Saying those certain 2days out of the week will cut it due to them being on the weekends usually.Western flyer Thanks this.

No hobby should ever be a priority but if you have a option to balance both i think most would agree that they would go with that option instead of a either or situation. As far as local companies so far I've either applied or talked to FED EX, UPS, USPS, Central Transport, YRC Freight, PEPSI, Heildleberg, Old Dominion, Coca Cola, ABF Freight, R & L Carriers, Holland, ESTES, US Xpress and a few others that i can't remember the names off the top of my head. All either required experience, Local positions were to far from home, lied about they're pay after asking around or haven't gotten back to me at the moment.Oxbow Thanks this.

EDIT: I can't read. I should pay attention. Please disregard my bad reading comprehension here.
Well you should probably avoid Flatbed if weekends off isn't going to fit you. Most flatbed Shippers/Receivers and job sites are shut down on weekends.
It's not uncommon for me to load something on Thursday or Friday and then park it in the yard until Monday.
The only places I've been to that are open on the weekend are the kind of places where it's costing hundreds of thousands or millions per day to be offline. They will pay the premiums to have contractors working 24/7 to get back online.
While it might not work for you now as a newer driver you may have to give up a bit of your hobby for now. Get some time and experience in and then find a job that you can do while keeping your hobby.Last edited: Feb 4, 2017

@Pontimaniac Sorry about my last post I should have paid attention.
One thing to keep in mind. A lot of these big companies will say weekends off. That might mean Friday night until Monday morning. It can also mean Friday at 10PM until Sunday at 8AM. Just enough for a reset and then off you go again.
When I worked for Maverick hauling glass I was always sent home Empty. They wanted me at a customer to reload by Monday morning usually so that usually meant leaving some time on Sunday to get there as the closest glass plant was about 4 hours away.RERM, cool7035 and Pontimaniac Thank this. -

That's why i was leaning towards TMC now instead of NTB even though i think i can make more consistent money at NTB. I will take a small pay cut if it leads to me living a happier life generally speaking.
