How does one get into hauling things like these?

I agree with your first sentence completely, given the opportunity I would certainly drive it for one day. But I have zero desire to do all that is required to get to that point nor am I interested in the stress level or lifestyle that comes with it.

As far as hauling big loads at first it neat for sure then it just becomes another day. 3 1/2 years on a 9 axle and I don't miss it one iota. I'd be perfectly content with a nice little 6 axle hauling mostly backhoes and skidloaders.

I remember watching it come through town that night. My old place here backed onto the highway. I could see it roll through from my living room.

I'd wager that @passingthru69 would have the same answer as I do when I say that I do not miss the circus. Nowadays, any time you have a move with a bunch of people involved, it turns into a circus. Seems like every clown you meet has his heart set on being the next Bozo. The bigger the load, the more clowns you have to deal with. Heck, I don't even want to deal with the nature films you have to watch at the nuke plants.

"Six, you mean to tell me that if given the chance, you wouldn't want in on that stuff for a day?"

Gee, what can we accomplish with a MegaHaul in a day...well, that's 4 hours of safety meetings, and 4 hours of pre trip inspections. So that would leave 2 hours to go 2 and a half miles.

"But Six, you could be the best of the best of the best!"

You mean I could be Bozo?

This is a very real aspect I neglected to mention. Every T D & H shows up with tags still on their binders telling you how excited they are to be hauling "the big iron". It is temporarily enjoyable to watch them fiddle fart around trying to figure out what to do and throwing in a question that results in what I call "the dog whistle look" Then they want to run with you, uh yeah about that hoss, ain't gonna happen.

Speaking of a circus...3 drivers load together. Oversized. One driver had a load shift. The other 2 drivers pull over, winch the load back in place and secure it correctly. One of the drivers gets a phone call about following too close to the lead truck. Turns out, the driver whose load shifted dropped a dime.

Off with his head I say!

On edit, this was a poor choice of works given the behavior of ISIS, and I apologize. I had more of a Monty Python theme in mind when I typed that.

That really happened? That in a fair world would call for a little school yard justice.
