Kinda makes sense but kinda hard to apply for companies that i don't even know exist....Only tanker trucks i ever see on my neck off the woods is fuel tankers and some company called Airgas. I looked into them but they require a little of experience before hand. I'll see if i can find some others that dont mind giving a new Grad a chance.

Hauling grain or aggregate is a great way to learn how to drive. Working for a contractor in and out of jobsites, or hauling grain or milk from farms and dairies will teach you a lot about driving that will serve you well out on the road. And as JD pointed out, $1100 a week out on the road will probably not net you any more that $800 a week sleeping in your own bed every night. Also, a small outfit will likely teach you how to service and maybe perform minor repairs. You may find yourself in the shop during the slow months fixing things up. You said that you are a gearhead, so you may enjoy that part of it as well. Just holding a steering wheel can get real boring.

On the other hand, maybe TMC will get you enough experience to get a local job, but the world of cross country trucking is not a nice place, and the learning curve can be tough.

Good luck in whichever way you go.

No company that quotes a set amount quotes net, it's all gross because everyone's tax situation is different. Tmc was alright for starting, if your a safe driver and made a trip out west with one winter under you they start harping on you to become a trainer, that and a couple of other issues at home forced me into leaving for a dedicated route.

You can look into cheeseman out of saint Henry, they take new guys but your car driving history and arrest record best be on point.

Ill ask around and see if i can find smaller owned businesses that's Local that can work with me then if I catch a name. I figured as much on the gross but wanted to make sure. 800$ a week net is what i would be aiming for at the minimum currently at least. I would prefer a dedicated or local account first but starting out seems like i need to go over the road for a bit before i get to live the good local life with a decent buck. I'm sure I'm not going to like being gone from home so much but it's something I'll have to get used to for the time being. My driving and criminal record is pretty much spotless aside frome a speeding ticket back in 08 or so. I look into them as well and see what they say.

Thing with tmc when you go through training you'll have several phone calls over training and they have several dedicated route in Ohio running coils out of Worthington in Columbus and Delta. If you prove your good and safe, they will likely offer you a dedicated route, but they don't know if you want one unless you tell them. They also have dedicated runs out of silver Grove KY hauling sheet rock, and shingles out of Medina.

I looked into the Cheeseman but says you need at least 6months to work there. I emailed them and asked anyways to make sure. That would be more then ok with me. The TMC guy mentioned something about them having a local account if i stick around for 3 months down in the Cincinnati area near that sterling grove place or something. Said they're a big customer for drywall i believe?

Cheeseman hires new guys but only if they ranked pretty high. Yeah that's silver Grove KY. Continental building products, one of their largest accounts. It's not bad so long as your loads are all preloaded. If you go in live load, you best be there before noon, or you'll be there till after dark

Ahh i gotcha. Thanks for the heads up. I'll need to remember that one. Only thing that bothers me with them is the pay now... What at least did you average when you worked there?

It really depends on how efficient you are at running the truck. Their performance based pay starts you at 26% I believe, after the first 30 to 45 days you gotta run as hard as possible to get your first snapshot. Once you get that you'll be at whatever you qualified for for the next 30 days. My first I made it to 31%, then I had 2 breakdowns that had me down for 3 days and then 7 days. That dropped me from 31 down to 26, and I was never able to get back above 29% after that. Breakdowns aren't supposed to count against you, but your dispatcher has to remove those 0s from your weeks, if they don't, you get stuck with them.

Overall I managed to make about $28,000 over 5 months then I left. Also at the time tmc insurance cost me about $147 a week for the mid level insurance plan for a family
