I have said that flatbed or open deck hauling for that matter is all attitude. You have it or you don't.
It really is true, and unless you do it you will never understand that statement.
Could be something about pulling into a shipper, putting a jigsaw puzzle together on the deck, doing a sweet tie down and then an even sweeter tarp over it and taking that out into the world for all to see.[/QUOTE]
So true... I used to do it in off-season for asphalt, and I "almost" epic failed. More than once. It's either ingrained into y'all, or its not. No accidents, just an upside down OVERSIZED sign that I got the LEO to forgive me for; told him it was Dezi 's b'day and I was paying tribute; and another TOTALLY unsecure load on a tripod I picked up from UPI ...... and gee...I just rolled with it. Load hopped about 2 miles from the destination, and I was 4th in line for the subway beams......man..... I pulled into a school (yeah, I know, right?!?!?) and pulled every chain and strap that I should've had on there already, at the last minute. Sweated the whole way; had the wife and kid that day, too. Made them hide in the sleeper. You guys are a helluva breed. I'll stick with being Mr. Slick and Quick with my 45 pump-off w/ the PTO...LoL~!! Kudos, men. I'm too old to be retrained.Oxbow, Lepton1, SidewaysBentHalo and 2 others Thank this. -
Lol
Last year my lady was at work at the hospital; gets talking with some fella waiting on a test while the equipment is cleaned. Tells her he's a trucker. She's says "my man is a trucker. He runs multi stop open deck and oversize"
She comes home laughing to tell me his face went ghost white and he says "wow. He's a MAN"
Lmao are you ####ing kidding me??
I'm gonna go slam some doors on Tuesday just to keep my ego in check
rank, KenworthGuyNH, Lepton1 and 10 others Thank this. -
Vans have never interested me. Even to wrench on. I've always been fascinated by the niche stuff like logging, oil patch gear, flatbed and RGN. I've said it before on here, when the day comes for me to take a break from wrenching, I'll be doing one of those 4.

I don't miss steel dynamics though. It was okay when the the computers were working, but if they ever crashed it was a hot mess there. Or if a stupid train came trough and blocked the road up!
