well, ive ben running vans for 3 yrs come april...havent done any flatbed or stepdeck since the Army, but have always wanted to get back into stepdecks...not sure which route to take but thinking of changing over in next month or so...looking at WTI, Maverick(maybe glass), Melton, a few others...really on the search for a smaller company type with non-politically correct type trucks...tired of playing the governd game...Ideally, a company that is as flexible as i am...thanks for reading...appreciate any advice...

    Melton isnt small
    Maverick and Melton are governed

Good luck finding a non governed company.

Try lonestar llc or ATS. They provide a path beyond normal open deck.

68mph companies that come to mind are KEIM (super singles on every axle, #### nice equipment) and BTC.

Obligatory look in your area as well. Mom and pop types of companies. Google maps can aide in this.

If you're no longer a rookie, don't look at companies that hire rookies. That's a step in the wrong direction for an experienced driver.

"But Six, I would need training...."

You need a quick lesson in securement and common sense, not another ride along in a trainer's truck. @Chewy352, can you link him to your tie down page?

Good luck with ungoverned trucks; they're a trial lawyers dream come true.

The securement manual, ttr, and a little common sense is all you need.

You are in Mineola, TX. ACME Truck has a terminal in Kilgore. Flatbed for the oil industry. It's all owner operators, but owners may need to hire a driver for one of their trucks. Pay is a percentage of revenue to the truck. Trucks are usually ungoverned. Currently on paper logs, but by mid year getting on e-logs to comply with the new regulation.

If you want to pull typical step deck freight maverick is not the place for you. They have step decks to pull 9' tall glass. There trucks also don't fit your "non-politicaly correct" standard. I think.

That being said I found hauling glass to be enjoyable. Your in a good spot too because Texas has multiple glass plants.
