    Hello,

I just purchased brand new 2016 Freightliner, truck had only 1700 miles. After of 1 day of driving at about 2600 miles driver told me that the truck required parked regen done. Is that normal for a new truck to do parked regen so soon?

If he idled it all night, then yes that would be normal.
I only idle mine if it gets below -30C. My last truck only ever ran overnight eight times in three years, and that's exactly how many parked regens it ever did in that time.

As to why the parked regen was required.
Idling the truck all night, the RPM's were not high enough for the exhaust temp to burn the soot and this raised the soot level in the reactor. As the soot level exceeded the levels set in the sensors of the system, a parked regen was required.

    I am not so sure.
A brand new truck can clog a dpf to the point it needs a parked regen after 10 hours of idling? 10 gallons of fuel? Doesn't sound right to me. And with very low miles it is not like it has burned all that much fuel yet either... Keep an eye on it for sure.

I was in a new T660 with CAT C15. And absolutley... if I idled over night, I would wake to bells and whistles as it had gone into derated mode and required a regen before continuing. This is why I despise trucks equipped with DPF.

Comparing caterpillar's attempt at meeting emissions to a 2016 emissions truck isn't really fair.

I have 2017 Cascade with Optimized Idle System. They truck will start automatically for engine oil temp, charging batteries or for sleeper heat or a/c. I would say after about 6 hours of idle time. The truck will do an parked regeneration automatically. So if someone is idling all night you will probably get parked regeneration warning in the morning.

Besides the addition of DEF,.. what has changed in the DPF? They still operate and perform the same function as far as I am aware. Take catalytic converters in cars. They havent changed much in over 35 yrs.

And to be fair,.. that T660 was actually pretty reliable. 1 ARD head/igniter was the only failed component the entire time I drove it. The C15 ACERT powered 386 I had was a total nightmare by comparison. In the shop at least once a month for various emissions related problems. Complete lemon. Neither could idle over night with out a regen when you woke.

I read that Volvo's can do a regen with lower RPM's and will do a parked regen on its own when idling.
