I asked about this one time and someone who actually tried said the crank goes in no problem but the 14.0 rod ends are bigger and won't clear the block of a 12.7. Cast a little different

Blocks are different. Con rods are diffrent. Cranks are different.

Even the head is different part number.
Valves are different material in the 14L.

14 liter Detroit is every bit as strong as a cat with the right tune

MY tweek'd 12.7 will run with the best of them. Bully dog manifold bw171702 turbo 5915 injectors and a good ecm tune. Next is a cam swap and she will really run hard.

I am a Cat guy personally. Have you contacted Kustom Truck? I have an 09' Pete that I put a 6NZ in. It was such a smooth swap man. With Kustom's harnessing it makes it so easy to do. They are expensive but in my situation it was worth it the Tech support I recieved was top notch and harnessing looked identical to OEM harnessing. Now I am not for sure on your year and make of truck but I think it would be worth a phone call to those folks.

I was a tester for Detroit when they were coming up with that 14L engine. Man they were trying to see what they could crank out after the EPA smacked down the industry just for FUN. I know mine at the end was set for 665HP 2250 Torque and would eat any Yellow or Red engine out on the road for lunch on the hills. Best part was while I was in the test fleet Detroit had a couple stipulations for the carrier I was with. No governors allowed was the big one only West coast loads for max time at higher altitude and speed and here was the kicker no limits on idle time and they could change the program at will for power. I would get a message stop at the next DD shop and get an update. That truck would run all day at 75 and never left me stranded.

I'm just curious, do you remember what year they started testing the 14L?
