Hello fellow truckers . So I'm having an issue with my truck . When it's freezing temperature and I try a cold start my truck cranks very slow and after about 15 seconds stops cranking at all. I looked at the battery wires they got very hot however when it's about 35-45 degrees truck fires up just fine . Someone told me I should add extra ground and red cable what do you guys think ? Anyone have this issue and how can i fix it .

Yes, last time it was super cold, I had the same problem. Went to home depot, rented a portable generator, plugged in to block heater, waited an hour and then it started right away.

How old are your batteries?

Brand new

Heat can indicate 2 things. A single hot spot on a cable or connection indicates resistance at that point (ie poor connection). If the cables are hot over their entire length (and I mean hot, not just a little warm to the touch), I would check your starter current draw. If the starter windings have an internal short, the starter has less cranking power and will draw more amps. Could be that the starter is going and you are only noticing it during the cold because of how much more power is required to turn over a cold engine.
SAR Thanks this. -
That would be my guess also is that the starter is getting weak and when it gets to be cold out it is having a harder time. Make sure all your connections are clean and tight, I know that will heat up wires if they are not connected properly.

Third on starter being weak or bad connections. If starter is old replace it. It will make a huge difference.

Below freezing plug it in
