    Yes, your either under 80k or over. If your over they can stop you at the scale.

    I think your understanding of physics is not your friend right now. Both the trailer and tractor are class 2 levers. The fulcrum is at the end, tandems for the trailer, drive axles on the tractor. The load is in between the fulcrum, and the effort, in the case of the trailer, that would be the kingpin, in the case of the tractor, the fifth wheel is the load and the front axle is the effort.

    Unless you are driving a tractor with a stinger, your fifth wheel is at or ahead of the center of the drivers, which means shifting the tandems back increases the load between the fulcrum and the effort, the front axle. You WILL NOT take weight off the front axle. Look at your pictures. Your fifth wheel is ahead of center.

    Can't say as I have ever had an Over weight ticket for around $1K. Seems kinda high or very over weight. Much like yours, Mine was $100 or less.

    Which state did the ticket come from? To my knowledge some states start charging by the pound(sounds like something California or Virginia would do).
