I think its only fair like drozzer said that we post valuable information. Truth is for some they take it as negative information!! When a potential driver comes to me and finds out his health insurance could cost twice as much for less coverage/ or is better, his pay may or may not increase, and/or lose time at home is a very big deal!! Why waste a individuals time to feed him only the positive info to get over to Walmart and quit because the job he had was a better fit for him and his family!!
As I said prior, I think Walmart is good at how they treat their drivers. Far.. Better than some of the previous companies I've worked for. Pay is good for no more work than we do I get all that. Its a good job, but its not perfect there's not a job out in this WORLD that is!!! I'm looking for that "happy medium" that has good pay, benefits, home everyday.
Yes.... I knew this was a OTR job when I signed up. Yes... I knew my insurance rates.. Yes.. I knew all my benefits. I figured WTH its worth a shot. So I accepted the offer.
My GTM will tell you that my #1 concern at my interview was $$. I told him I was coming from a job where i was home everyday making 100k plus with great benefits and a management position lined up! He told me exactly what he could offer. I was skeptical!! but I did the numbers in my head and figured its gonna be easier why not.??! Well come to find out...if would have set money aside and looked at what i currently had i would have been happy at where I was at!! I just reached over 1yr at WM this past week and this job is the most I've ever been away from home. When I started driving in 2010 with ZERO experience!! I have never made less than ruffly 60k.
Matter of fact.. A lot of you prob won't believe me but my first job in trucking at SWIFT was my most profitable per week job I've ever had. After 6 months on a JC Penney ded acct I was allowed to Train students on a target ded. .47cpm + local pay+ 10.00 per stop. I received all miles paid that I drove and student while I was in the bunk. Since I was a hard runner I got home every other day or so. I was making between 2500-3k per week gross in my first yr of trucking!!
Only reason why I quit is cause home every couple of days wasn't enough for me and the training had Burnt me out. I gave all that money up as a fresh rookie for a 60-65% pay cut to be home everyday. Not that any of you care about my story. Moral is!! ALL information is good information if based off FACTS!! Not every job will be for EVERYONE!!Last edited: Feb 13, 2017

What part of the country are you in?

The drama in this thread is unreal. If you don't want to work for walmart there are hundreds of other drivers that will happily take your place since this is an incredibly sought after job.
kruz1980, Extreme4x4, slim6596 and 4 others Thank this. -

My 2 cents - this forum started out as a place for drivers who want to work for Walmart to come and gain information - about how to get the job - follow drozzer's journey - but it seems like it has turned into a place to convince drivers to work for the private fleet or not - this is not the place for that - if you haven't decided if you want to come work here, then there should be an "I can't decide if I want to work for Walmart" thread. I know information is valuable - but - frankly, I think too much of the private fleets info is given out here - some things need to be kept in house - by the time many of the new hires get to orientation, they won't have any questions to ask - they've all been answered here - pay, insurance, programs, etc. No need to go out with a mentor - just come here and ask the question. The focus needs to go back to the OP's original intent. Just my opinion.

It varies from DC to DC and if it weren't for this thread we wouldn't have been able to find out anymore information about working for them. I don't think its wrong for people to get an informed decision. Just because someone wants basic info on if it will provide for their family or not isn't a reason for other drivers to come on here criticizing the company. Although that would probably happen anyway. I do agree that some people give out far too much information on here. I don't give out what DC my husband works for or any specifics because well it is the internet. I follow the same guidelines here I would anywhere else.

I wouldn't have a problem with posting in a different thread. I agree this thread was intended for that reason. General public just came here and one thing led to another.
