Okay, five years ago I refused a dot drug test, then I gave my cdl up. And now that I have cleaned my act up, could I get my cdl back without having any backlash from five years ago? And the company I was with went under, so could a company find anything about that stuff, thank you.
Young & stupid!

Is it on your DAC report? Could be if the company used DAC. You can find out on www.hireright.com
Even if it shows up, you're good to go. Where is your location so we know the hiring area you live in?
Since the former company is no longer in business, you will need tax records to show you worked there.
Also, do you want to retrain through a trucking company school or a private cdl school?Last edited: Feb 13, 2017
Diggler, G13Tomcat and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this. -
What is UP with these "one hit wonders" that want advice, and don't check back, or chomp the bit for 30 minutes until @Chinatown or somebody with HALF his brain replies?!?
KillingTime, bzinger, SHOJim and 1 other person Thank this. -

Haha tomcat, if you fail or refuse it's a good sign you might not be as dedicated as you want to be. Sober life is difficult for some. I always look at it like: sober life = long life.
Yeah its possible to recover and be successful in this field, but you have to have a love for driving or it won't weigh out. I was 16 and would just drive to drive. Put the miles on just because you like the experience. That's why I chose this field.
If you're serious, get a dac,
Wait the month for it to show up. If it's on as it is. You might have to attend some class but 5 years down the line you will get hired somewhere, just use the job for what it is, experience. This line of work is unforgiving for drug use but defiently recoverable.
Best of luck future driver.DRAGON64, elnacho_248 and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
This industry is plenty forgiving, depending on who you talk to. Plenty of small-ish companies if you hit the boss/owner up and "sir, I have been a valuable employee as you know, but I have found myself making some bad decisions", they will help you. You will NOT be allowed to drive, but sometimes they will put you through a program. If you get busted though, that same boss will toss you off the ship in a hurry. Luck of the draw, and decency of the person.

@G13Tomcat
I now have that song stuck in my head! Thanks!!
Next time, RELAX, DONT DO IT!!!KillingTime, G13Tomcat and Diggler Thank this. -
The drug testing is Federal. The failure abd the refusal s are also federal. Whether your old company is in business or not is irrelevant. You may want to look into a SAP program.
"But Six, i am clean. I can pass any drug test there is."
According to the regs, any CDL holder who either fails the test or refuses must successfully complete a RTD test (Return To Duty). -
G13Tomcat Thanks this.
