Whats the fuel economy on Detroit DD16 looking to buy new truck

Do NOT idle under any circumstances a new emissions truck!!

 

Yes . The DPF is catching soot as the engine runs . At idle it is not burning the fuel as well as higher speeds . Any unproductive run time needs to be limited. But if on has to idle , set it to high idle (900-1000 rpm) . Makes little less soot.

 

The DPF will not last as long , but like the one box set up , can run 6 to 7 k. You want to take care of them.

 

We are not to talk about illegal emission mods on here.

 

No offense but if you don't know that I would recommend a pre-emissions motor. A lot simpler to take care of and also feel more powerful than the new motors @ the same advertised power! Also if you're unsure about getting a new motor (and I would usually advise against this) maybe try a lease deal where you can operate said new truck for a couple months and then walk away at no penalty. Could be cheaper and give you a sense of what is required to run new equipment. Just a thought!

 

With the right gears and a good driver, you can get by with a 13 litre motor with that kind of weight.

On summer fuel, I can get between 5-6 mpg from a 2007 15-litre CAT tuned to 550 hp with 85,000-90,000 lbs with a deck. 16-litres are monster motors.
