Uniden PC78LTD

There is a video on youtube by breakerbroke23 where he does a decent review of the 68ltd. I have the 78ltd 50th aniversery and it performs good stock out of the box set at 5 watt carrier and 20 watt pep, loud and clear audio with Ranger sra198 mic. These new Unidens ( 680,880,980,787,68ltd, 78ltd) are all surface mount technology and have very few tuning pots on the board, so there is very little tweaking that can be done, but Im sure there are some Techs out there that would love to try. As far as a good antenna, there isnt a special one that matches up specifically with this, or any other radio, choose one based on your truck and mounting location.

 

As you can see in the video it was set at 5 watt carrier modulated to 20 watt pep and after he increased modulation with tuning pot the radio was increased to 30 watt pep, significant difference, is it worth it, you be the judge, personally I would use it stock and see how it does.

 

Depends on the set up....Some stock radio can really reach out and big radios with poor ant set up suffer..

Go chk out some of the truck stops cause i have seen wilson 5000 on sale for $35....
Also depends on the truck to..
If its on a volvo/international or fl with the big thick mirror arms you can get away with a shorter shaft...If its on a cascadia get a firestick or skip shooter but atleast 5 ft tall..Keep the coil(wire windings)up top of the ant...On the firestick find one with the tuneable tip(lil adjustable screw)and skip shooters have what looks like a nail up top for tuneing..
Once you perfect that set up with atleast 10 mi range then move up to bigger power and better antenna type cause by then you should have learned some stuff..

 

Craig, where did you see Wilson 5000 for $ 35.00 , thats a really good price.

Almost grabbed one or two but said naw....I got my single coul 10k,duel coil 10k/7ft skipshooter/5ft firestick and a pair of k40's with the big external coils..I gotta stop buyin stuff..Sheesh..

 

Was just at the Loves in Abingdon Va and thats as far north as I went on I 81 , I need to start looking better or just wait until I get by Richmond Hill Ga and see what he is selling a 2000 for, and as far as buying stuff, impossible to stop, its a compulsion, a disease, cb stands for constant buying.

Make sure its got the tuneable tip..also look up testing your coax for a short
