I am an amputee(left leg) seeking employment as a truck driver. I have read in mulptiple online blogs that there are waivers to the four limb requirement. Are there any Amputee drivers out there who have been through this process who can explain it to me? Please no troll responses. Only amputees...

Why don't you start by checking with your states
I think you should check with your states DMV to see if it's even possible go get a CDL then go from there. PS. The person I quoted is obviously a Di??head

I've seen them with both legs missing. They are Vietnam vets. They use artificial legs and do quite well in trucking.

I saw a video on Twisted Trucker showing a Decker flatbed driver with left leg amputated. He securing his load and looked stronger and fit than most of us with two legs.

You will have to prove that with limb attachments you can climb into and out of a 18 wheeler cab using the three point safety minimum contact with the rig. You will have to prove that you can do everything associated with pre-trip, raising lowering the hood or cab, whatever it may be for conventional or cabover. You will especially have to show physically fit for flatbed, tanker work throwing hose, chain binders etc.

personally I say have at it. Just because you lost a limb or 4 does not mean life is over. Ive seen Soldiers, Marines etc REENLIST and put on the Uniform, pickup a rifle and go back to war from time to time minus a few limbs. Our Enemies must be really scared because they did not get em killed the first time and they will even be more harder to kill this time.

In Personal cars though, your vehicle must have modifications to suit installed so that if you aint have feet for brake and gas you still have your hands for that work in addition to steering, which is not half bad at all. Motorcycle controls come to mind.

I don't think a Trucking Company is REQUIRED to modify a 18 wheeler to suit you the employee without limbs. However I think there is room for interpretation.

I am in total support if a amputee wants to take up trucking. 95% of that work is going forward and mentally being ready for whatever problems, real or imagined that might crop up literally as you go down the road.

It would be less of a interest for me to see amputees put to work lumping freight. That 120 pound box of frozen seafood is pretty big and Im not too happy to see amputees try to unload that. Or perhaps 552 boxes of Frozen Meat loaded at a western Meat Plant on the floor on slip sheet and now has to be stacked on small wood at a union distribution or something on the East Coast. Meijhers would be one chain I would look at hard. Associated Grocers (Non union) would be another. Or should they even be dealing with such weighty problems when you consider that a person's personal capabilites in mind, body and spirit may have been altered by physical missing limbs that may or may not be replaced. What will happen to the Spine over time if there is no knees to lift with?

Eventually Robots will unload trucks. No more Lumpers. But until then we have many good possibilites for amputees these days. If I lost a limb or two it will be really bad and it's horrible. But considering what is availible out there once the healing begins there are many possibilites.

This one was with one leg on crutches cleaning his truck windshield. By his age I don't think he is Vietnam veteran. I could be wrong.
