Isn't that the truth though.Drivers performance starts failing and all the driver thinks about is hurry up and get the day over with. I'm speaking from exp.

So many guys are tired of the 6 day weeks you cannot get vacation time less than several months from now. I just had Christmas to New Years off. I will call-in sick if I sneeze these days.

The company has a Retention Dept and I'm talking to them. However, this 6 day week nonsense is the reason for most of the departures from this account. Seniority #1 left last summer. New-hires stay about 6 months then they leave. My complaints are we get no overtime, even though we are hourly, and we are required to work overtime. Yard truck drivers get Overtime after 40 hours, not us.

BTW truck driving is EXEMPT from overtime laws. You may know someone getting paid overtime they are not REQUIRED to be paid overtime pay.

Getting away from the truck and finding some enjoyment is the only way. A few days or a few weeks, or in my case a few months.

There is a reason big companies conduct a new driver orientation every week. Its not you, its the nature of the job if you are OTR.

You're exactly right Patty. So many OTR guys tell me us hourly drivers enjoy traffic jams and slow customers because we make money. I'm monitored by the minute and have my personal schedule down to the minute so I have time to sleep, wash clothes, buy groceries, etc. I know some tumbleweed sitting through a green light just caused me to eventually be 15 minutes later meaning I've got to decide what to skip doing when I get home, not to mention that I will know be caught up in the factory shift-change traffic that makes civilians fleeing Baghdad seem like a picnic.

They can only allow 2 drivers off on any day and drivers have used up all vacation slots for months. If I stub my toe or get an eyelash in my eye I'm calling in sick.

That's how Tyson is on my second round most the time I'd get there when the plant let's out and the second shift comes in.Its sad when you know minute by minute where you're going to be.That's a sure sign you need time off from your company the ppl and the entire industry.

You're a glutton for punishment. I'm guessing the money is good but there's no way that type of schedule would work for me.

Obviously it's worked for you for a long time though.

You need to decide what your priorities are and if the company can't meet them it might be time for a change.

Thanks, I'm dedicated and home every day to sleep/shower. When I come back from vacation by the 2nd week it's like I never had a break.

Crack, meth, orange fanta, and skittles give me a nice kick when I'm overworked and don't want to take time off.
