I enjoy driving tankers. As @ExOTR stated once you get use to the surge & learn to shift with it, it's really not that bad. It does knock you around quite a bit & you definitely want to take turns & curves 10-15 miles under the posted speed limit. I've have some chemicals hit the back of my cab so hard I thought I was struck by another vehicle! I would reccommend Schneider Bulk they have treated me well so far & ive made some good pay checks as well. Don't expect every week to be a "Great" one either though. I'm regional so idk If your going OTR or not. I'm home on the weekends so I make less money than I could be making had I stay out longer. But yea any questions feel free to ask. I'm only 4 months in so I don't know everything, I'm still learning.![]()

I ran hazmat/tankers coast to coast and really liked it. Personally, I wouldn't do local work, but that's just me. Get some tanker experience then if you like it and want to make more money, move to Trimac Transportation Elite Fleet and make $100K+ running OTR.FLYMIKEXL and flyingaseagles Thank this.

10 mph to 15 mph under the speed limit on exit ramps or very sharp curves.
If you're driving a stick shift, learn to shift between surges during the lull of the surge or Thull's description of shifting with the surge as it comes forward. Surge isn't bad with a full tank, but 3/4 or less is a lot of fun! If you drive an automatic the transmission will take care of that for you.
I drove auto and stick coast to coast and I'll take the auto anytime.Last edited: Sep 19, 2016

Do you have a family? A girlfriend/boyfriend? Nothing against the long haul fellas on this forum (wish I could go OTR sometimes for a change of scenery) but if you still can... Get that local fuel hauling gig. Hauling fuel is steady and good money. When I was a single man it afforded me to walk down to the local watering hole Saturday nights and mingle with lady folk which I miss (can't necessarily do that OTR). Plus you get a sense of pride when you tell someone your a truck driver that hauls gas. Not everyone cares but it's cool to see the eyes widen when you say you haul gas. Ladies love danger
