Do you have a swr meter, the 68ltd does not have a built in swr meter like the 78ltd does.

 

I have the 78ltd 50th anniversary along with an sra198 mic & wilson 2000 antenna.

It is mounted on my dash and i was getting a good amount of sun reflection off the chrome trim in the morning headed east. I covered the trim with a piece of painters tape which took away the glare.

 

The swr meter is pretty accurate on the 78ltd but if you have a separate meter it might be best to use it for swr adjustment.

 

Hey Mrgreen09, you going to keep that radio stock or get it tuned up? If you get by Deforest Wi I hear that Q5 cb shop is good with the new Bearcat/Uniden SMT boards.

 

Well after posting about the 78ltd I had to hook it up, for whatever reason I havnt used it in a while. With the Palomar SL41 mic getting positive feedback " loud and clear sounds good". Only thing is meter had to be adjusted, when I key up it would go to almost the cal arrow and then when you talk, obviously would slam to the right. On the board there is a tiny,tiny,tiny, barely visible pot labelled s/ rf, just had to turn very little counter clockwise and now it keys to 7 and swings into the red. Im just east of St. Louis and skip is rolling and the receive is very good, comparable to the BC 980.

 

Now I remember why I dont use this radio in the big truck, static, used it today on my trip from New Baden IL to Altoona IA and it wants to pickup any type of static,noise,or interference that is available. When sitting still the receive is great but once you start driving it gets unbearable especially driving by any type of lighted sign, the BC 880 is the same. Since these radios are SMT boards is there still adjustments on the board to align the receive or is that pretty much the nature of the beast and nothing can be done without losing receive. Both these radios worked fine in my pickup truck and the BC 980 does not have the same issue. Oh well 29 Chrome LTD is back in line.

 

What is the swr? Sometimes radios with antenna warning light are calibrated from factory to go on if swr is 2.0 or above.
