Been putting this off for too long. Tired of worrying running through rain. Found myself with warm weather, an open area, and time to kill.
Really makes me appreciate taking the time to pad loads. Cuz this is just not fun!

Love that HH-66. I used to do an intercompany relay. I'd send good tarps out, the drivers at the other facility would steal them and I'd get junk tarps back. Always lost most of the bungees too.Patch them up, wash rinse and repeat.
I eventually got yelled at because I had a return load get wet because of this, so next load out I wouldn't drop my trailer until I'd pulled all my equipment off of it. Told the guy I'd continue to do so unless I stopped getting screwed, and he finally got the message.passingthru69, IH Truck Guy and DDlighttruck Thank this. -
It's much better keeping your equipment with you. I know some places have you trading tarps often...no thanks.
fargonaz Thanks this. -
Continued...after some gentle cleaning and drying, cut patch to size and shape. Round corners, apply adhesive to tarp and patch. Allow to cure (time dependent on you local temperature).

You're being too neat Peelsession. That's what is taking so long. Lol I just did this the other day in Memphis at the place you and I loaded a couple weeks ago. Had to patch tarps before I could tarp the load. You are right...tarp maintenance isn't fun.

My new co-driver wasnt too tickled either. He was happy to find out we don't patch tarps every load!
-
@MrEd did they check your tarps? Or you knew they needed it?
Isn't that the load that tore your tarps up in the first place? -
Shoot everytime I decided I had the time, weather, and space to patch tarps as soon as I unrolled them the wind would pick up. Then I was scrambling to pull out dunnage to weigh them down. That's how I wound up carrying about 6 moving blankets with me.
Dye Guardian and Peelsession Thank this. -
I carry 10 felt blankets. Half the time, it's not enough!Chewy352 Thanks this.

You can never have enough protection. My company provided 2 big mesh tarps too. I'd use those over most of the load and the blankets on the worst parts. Leading edges and edges of pipe/tubing.
My first load of tubing I looked it over and figured eh it's rounded it should be fine right? Nope. Huge holes 200 miles later. Doh!!passingthru69 Thanks this.
