Someone correct me if I am wrong because it has been a while. But I wonder if some of the people fussing at the OP have ever been to Texas and seen one of these roads. Ya'll are acting like the the OP is recommending driving through the ditch. From what I remember this "shoulder" is a paved portion about half the size of a lane. You do not have to drop your speed or go mud bogging in order to let a vehicle pass. You just edge it over and let the speedster zoom on by.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
The correct thing to do is slow down and let him pass. The shoulder is for emergencies only which i'm pretty sure that law is nationwide.Protein Hauler and GoneButNotForgotten Thank this.

Not in Texas. It's legal to drive on the shoulder to let someone pass.Lepton1, Pedigreed Bulldog, TripleSix and 2 others Thank this.
-
Have you ever been on one of these roads?
-
I'll have to see the law.I personally think it's a risky move especially in an 18 wheeler.Protein Hauler Thanks this.

Yes I have many times but never have I pulled over to let someone pass me.Heck every few miles there were passing lanes he can just wait.Protein Hauler Thanks this.

Which has been stated multiple times, but people just read what they want to read. People forget that each state has its own laws and what applies in one doesn't necessarily apply in another.Lepton1, Toothpick1, ChaoSS and 4 others Thank this.

Not if the shoulder was designed for it. Which also has been stated before that the shoulder on 54 is designed for that except for at the passing lanes and in towns.Lepton1 Thanks this.
