In the LTL world, a dolly is used to haul double and triple trailers. Single axle, with landing gear, but connects with a pintle hook. It's what gives the wiggle wagons so much wiggle.
On that test that OP took, they have a drawing of a 3 axle truck, and a two axle jeep and a 3 axle Rgn...and you have find the center of the trailer to load it. The jeep throws them off. Open book test. At the end of the test, they will talk to you about the answers you wrote. They don't really care how you got the answer, only that you understand the answer. Carl gave him the correct answer, but it didn't seem as if he understood Flatbed 101.snowman_w900, passingthru69, Ruthless and 1 other person Thank this. -
Dolly converts Pintle hook to fifth wheel
Jeep is fifth wheel to fifth wheel but changes axle count and weight distribution.

Just emphasizing Ruthless point about weight distribution. A dolly may look somewhat similar, but it has absolutely nothing to do with weight distribution on the tractor 5th wheel. It's like those streetwalkers @passingthru69 has been posting about. There is a tremendous difference between a girl and a "ladyboy." They may look similar, but one of them has the wrong OEM equipment for the job.OLDSKOOLERnWV, Oxbow, snowman_w900 and 6 others Thank this.

Some of the old timers around here call a "jeep" a "joe-dog". I don't know what the official term term is but "jeep" is a registered trademark of Fiat Chrysler.
FWIW, I call it a jeep.passingthru69, OLDSKOOLERnWV and rank Thank this. -
My impression of a joe-dog is the same thing, but used on two axle ltl tractors to pull a longer and heavier trailer. Not that it matters.

I guess we are just splitting hairs, but I don't understand what you are saying.
The definition you gave for a Joe-dog, isn't that exactly the same as a jeep? If not, what are jeeps used for?Last edited: Feb 24, 2017
