I been drivin bob tail trucks for about 3 years and finaly decided to step it up to big rigs. Anyway I am currently going to truck school and also lookin for pre hires. Its very hard for me because I have a felony 5 years ago and a dui 7 years ago. No one wants to even consider me as of yet. I talked to two recruters and they shot me down with no problums. I call diffrent companys every day and they all shot me down too. My graduation is coming fast and Im starting to stress really bad. I dont want to spend 5,000 for a piece of plastic. Im in California so the laws are pretty stiff and companys are sturn. My teacher says im a great driver and that I have natural ability I just need some to give me a shot. I wanted to know if anyone has been in a similar situation. Any words of encouragement would be nice.
    Thanks

I got a DUI in 2004, and I too am playing h#*#! There are only a few companies that might take me into consideration. It was my first DUI ever! Other than that I have a near perfect driving record. I is tuff!

Guy's I have been suffering from this to...My prob is that I gaot a dui 5 yrs out and from what I have found is that atleast 5 yrs is the magic # so you will prob. have a very hard time with your dui on '04 and its from compleation not from the day you got it!!

Now i had a dui in '02 so I would fall into this 5 yr thing but in conjuction with my dui they gave me an open cotainer wich I tried to explain this since I am a Limo driver and this was left over from previous runs but...Because of this from what I found is that trucking co. see this as 2 seperate alcohol relaited offences even though tis 5 yrs out and on the same day!!!
What I'm saying is you might have some probs. From what I found here is you may be able to find work for a small co.(very small)

I am no Atty but I will tell you that I do know a Very Very Good ATTY and he is working on my case even though its 5 yrs out and done..

now heres a related question, I have a felony and ui on my record , but both are from more than 10 years ago, nothing is pending, most companies policy is no felony in past 10 years and same for dui since mine are more trhan 10 years old (felony finished 13 years ago and dui 16 years ago) should I even tell them about these.

I hate to sound harsh, but this industry really doesn't need drivers with drug or alcohol problems. Maybe you should consider another line of work.

The companies who are going to hire you with a felony and a DUI aren't going to pay you much at all. Probably abuse you too.

Get sober, do your time, and then start looking for a job driving a truck.

would appear you didn't read all, considerin dui was more than 16 years ago.
so I have been sober an etc for at least 16 years.

    geez give it a rest!!
felony is better than DUI.....well that depends on Co.
all Co.s have their own "system" for figuring it out
some are no felons, some are no DUI, some are no accidents or a combination of any and all above:biggrin_25510:

Your school should be helping you find employment, that is part of their package. Have you tried Arrow? They were the backup company if my hubby couldn't find employment elsewhere. Some guys around this forum have also mentioned USA.
