In my opinion, if you are interested, go with Tanker. Tanker pays more. I had more fun and more opportunities with a Tanker. I started pulling Tanker in the Oil Fields of West Texas (Odessa) and had a blast doing it. Also, you sleep in a quieter environment. So, let's look at Reefer facts:
* Loud reefer kicks on and off all night, and depending on the load, you may have to document the temperature through the night-I had to on certain loads, didn't get much sleep.
* Long waits at Receiver and Shipper, Lumpers, TCH/EFS checks.
* Reefer's need fuel-that can be a pain.
* Reefer's break down and have to go to the shop.
* Reefer battery blinks out-now you have to get it started.
* Have to watch that darn light while driving down that open stretch of road.
* What to do with that product when it has been rejected.
GO WITH TANKER...

Most drivers look down at yard jockeys but that's what I did to recharge my batteries. I got out of the truck for two years working 7to 5 Monday through Friday made decent change with OT.

team drive with a lady friend, switch jobs , quit and take a month (or three ) off lol just switch it up....all depends on your situation of course but if you HAVE to work 6 days a week to make it....well you done messed up!

I'm considering an OTR bulk tanker job. Out 2 weeks at a time. Pay is 47/35 CPM loaded & empty, plus $45 to load/unload & good insurance. It looks to stay east of Mississippi, maybe some TX.
Other job is reefer. 40-45 CPM, no real insurance, well-equipped truck, chill dispatch, drive out West a lot & midwest. Out 3-6 weeks. Home 3-5 days.
Bulk tanker seems like better work, but in the busy stressful East-half of US vs. reefer hauling in Western-half of US. Tanker trucks aren't APU/inverter equipped. Reefer trucks have APU/inverters.
Tanker job is a chance to stop hauling vans. Reefer job is a chance to work out West, get another dog, take a passenger.

You're OCD just like your boss, only his reward is better. You should find somone who can talk you down from the ledge. Maybe a support group, which I know will be hard with your schedule.

Maybe try local construction? I really enjoyed it wheni did it but i was looking for more money. only thing that sucked was waking up at 3am lol. Id take the tanker job myself...depending on the company and areas reefer is a hassle and cali stinks

I'll try talking with the head guy over here before I start boning out. But I have a feeling it will end up going nowhere. Trying to stick with strictly taking pre-loaded tankers from the yard to the plant, but with a couple of people either leaving or getting fired for some oddball reason every couple of months, the typical excuse is "You're back on barn loading until we find more people."
When and if they ever find more bodies is quite a gamble. And seeing how many of the same heads in this region seem to pop up at the several different milk hauling outfits in this area 2-8 months at a time, it should be quite evident that there's no real scheduling around the natural habits of cows and finicky Dut......et Dairymen. -
