Maps ??

I chose a Garmin Nuvi and I back that up with a 10 dollar Rand McNally from the Pilot. After getting the directions to a customer from my Company, I plug in my route based on what is given as the best route.

Next I compare what the GPS gives for a route to what I have plugged in already. If there is a signifigant milage gain to be made I then double check with the Paper Truck Map to make sure the GPS isn't trying to route me under a low bridge.

The GPS at this point is the best way for me to see street names in a timely manner when I get close to a customer. It is also a great tool for giving you an idea of what time you will arrive or how many miles you have left for figuring out your hours. AND IT'S ONLY 3 INCHES! not 15 inches blocking your windshield or worst yet off to the side which can't be good for your eyes going down the road.

 

Google Earth is not current . If you know of any recent construction anywhere try to locate it in Google Earth . They built a new subdivision near here a couple of months ago and Google Earth doesn't show it .

 

This came about when laptops became capable of receiving tv broadcasts and states considered them being defined in the Federal regulation requiring tv receivers to be out of view of the driver . FMCSA has issued a statement this does not apply to laptops but states are still free to make their own regulation regarding it .

 

I get my directions from the q-comm and verify that they are correct with Google Maps and Google Earth.

One thing I really like about Google Maps is the street view. Getting an idea of what is on the ground and what it looks like from the ground can really help out when delivering to small places in the city.

 

Old School might be needed one day! Treasure it! We may need it in case our world ww gets blacked out!

I am sure most Profesionally Driver has a map and notebook. Right? If not, then maybe they're too ####y & will end up in a situation where they wish they had them. It's that darn instantenous gratification rearing its ugly head again! I need it now!

 

Yep, if you look at my company location on GE, you will see the new construction of the apartment complex that was completed two years ago.

I still find my old notebooks with directions written in them when I go digging through stuff. Ah, the good old days.
