Get a good CPAP machine like Resmed or Resperonics. Then you can look at your own sleep data if you want. Get an auto set or automatic CPAP. They are nice to have because it can self adjust pressure as someone is sleeping. Like if some loses weight your pressure can change. It just nice to have the option vs having a machine that can only be set for your prescription/pressure. They can be changed to any pressure, but auto set. It nice to have if you ever want it.
The insurance company pay the same set price for a CPAP. So it nice to get a better machine if possible. ResMed has built-in humidifier and wireless modem to report usage. It smaller compact machine, unless you get some special travel CPAP.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
CPAP might do well when it ramps up pressure as you fall asleep. Not shoving buckets of air down your gullet...
I cannot imagine the cpap for me. I wont use one. If that means I go I go. Ive had a good run. -
They also have Bi pap machines. They are cpap machines with 2 separate pressure settings. One for breathing in and a lower pressure to exhale.. they are good I guess when someone has a high pressure settings because you have to breath out against that same pressure. So a Bipape lowers the pressure so breathing is more easy..
That's what I have Bipap. In the sleep lab they turn up the pressure to see how much you need to fix the sleep apnea. Then it make is more difficult to breath I guess. So then they can switch to Bipap and see how you respond to that and see if you if you go into REM sleep. I don't know but when people do a home sleep test I don't the think they can get Bipap. Because they can only test that in a sleep labx1Heavy Thanks this. -
Someone tell me how much that #### cost in Retail please. What would a poor SOB have to pay out of pocket to get these CPAP's BIPAPS and god knows what else?
What about the medical billing for that there sleep lab? Im curious if you do not mind. Everyone talks about the medical stuff but no one says anything about the cost which I suspect is outrageous.
My last big procedure was a MRI scan of head and neck lasting almost two hours. The bill? 18,000 dollars please ty. Machine value? 4 million as it sat there working on 30 some odd gallons of coolant. -
The sleep test is around 5,000 and the CPAP is around 700.x1Heavy Thanks this.

Do you have to replace the CPAP? So every few months another 700?

No, new masks inserts every 3 months ($15 to $30, depending on mask), new hose and humidifier every year ($35 and $25) and an air filter every month ($12 for a pack of 12)
Now the mfg wants the machine replaced every 5 years, but I know a couple people that have one for 10, and one just replaced a 20 year old one.DRAGON64 Thanks this. -
They do have home sleep apnea test for like $500. Some of those are not as good I believe. Because they can't see if someone is sleeping the big thing is they can't see when your in REM sleep.
I think on the home test they always give someone autoset/automatic CPAP because they have no way of knowing a person pressure. So they are relying on the CPAP to figure out the correct pressure. In a sleep lab they can dial in your correct pressure because they can see if your in REM sleep. If CPAP is not working they can switch you to Bipap and see how you react to that. Once someone is on CPAP you adjust to the pressure and you don't even notice it. If they give someone a cheap autoset CPAP and is not very good to finding the correct pressure because they never went to sleep lab. That person will probably never use it and say they cant sleep or breath and the hole thing is a scam. I'm sleep lad you at least know you starting pressure and you can go into REM sleep at home if you did at sleep lad because you have the correct pressure for your body.. that's the hope anyway.x1Heavy Thanks this.
