Average turnover rate in this business is over 100%, so you are just being average.

How many paid holidays? Are the personal days allowed to be taken consecutively? Can they be taken in conjunction with their Vacation?

Speaking for myself, no health insurance is an automatic deal breaker, regardless of pay scale.

Did you talk to other FedEx owners to see what they are offering, I know you guys talk to each other.

Drivers are easy to find, good drivers are hard to find.

4 paid holidays--flat rate if they would have had odd (like a weekend) and time and a half if it's a workday. Personal days can be taken consecutively. This would be for sickness or family emergency. I hadn't given it a thought whether they could add it to their vacation yet (sorry for the delayed reply, got caught up in other things!)

I have and it ranges from like 45-52 for single runs. Of course teams are more. So I feel like we have some leeway with the 3 cents and the other incentives (other contractors don't offer d and h, personal days, etc)

Yeah that's our big hurdle. We just started 8 months ago and we of course would like to offer it but looking at our books I'm just trying to figure out how. I am not making any profit and just meeting our bottom line, so things are right. It definitely didn't help that when we first started we had some hurdles to overcome with the truck we purchased. All part of the ebb and flow, though.

I appreciate your insight on the 55 cpm. It seems to be higher than average as I researched our region (south central PA) and being that it is for local, home, everyday. However, as others have mentioned the 3rd shift aspect as a deterrent.

Seems to me that you're offering a fair starting package. The problem may be that there is a relatively small number of drivers that have a good driving record, no criminal record, and fair number of years of experience under their belt. Those type drivers tend to get the prime jobs and are not available. The rest of the pool is a judgement call.

Have you considered going to the local Workforce office and posting a job? Also, I'd consider those folks who have criminal records involving white collar or less serious crimes. You might find a gem in the rough that you can help re-integrate and who would be eternally grateful and dedicated to your company.

I keep hearing that the shrinking driver pool is just a myth but then run into MANY employers that say they have the trucks and the loads, but no drivers. Anyway, good luck !
