Okay, again we have flawed logic, and a very off point response.
We aren't debating about shortcuts through the mountains.
But, just because the engine is running longer, does not mean more wear and tear.
Lower rpms at slower speeds = slower revolutions = less wear and tear
Less turbo boost = less wear and tear
Shocks, springs, wheels, suspension at 60mph compared to 70mph = less wear and tear
Easier on tires and brakes at slower speeds. Engine generally stays cooler.
I don't see how in the world one could assume running faster/harder would cause less wear and tear, just by saving an hour a day.
Again, absolutely no disrespect meant...

When I see mpg arguments...
Lady: Do you smoke?
Guy: Yes I do.
Lady: How many packs a day?
Guy: 3 packs.
Lady: How much per pack?
Guy: $10.00 per pack.
Lady: And how long have you been smoking?
Guy: 15 years
Lady: So 1 pack is $10.00 and you have been smoking 3 packs a day which puts your spending per month at $900. In 1 year, it would have been $10,800. Correct?
Guy: Correct.
Lady: If 1 year you spend $10,800, not accounting for inflation, the past 15 years puts your spending total at $162,000. Correct?
Guy: Correct.
Lady: Do you know if you hadn’t smoke, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 15 years, you could have by now bought a Ferrari?
Guy: Oh. Do you smoke?
Lady: No.
Guy: Then where’s your ####ing Ferrari?dustinbrock, ChicagoJohn, Protein Hauler and 13 others Thank this. -
I don't know about the interest factor. The last few years it hasn't been worth a crap. LOL
I don't think bonds have been doing much better either. BUT, i don't really care for the ferrari. I just want the Harley.
Oxbow and trucker3205 Thank this. -
I understand what you're saying, but we're speaking of how to maximize business profits rather than someone's personal vices. Though it doesn't seem to be a cheap habit, a person can choose to use their money however they please.
From a strictly business sense, I'm trying to figure out why I see so many guys doing 70+mph, just blowing dollars out the stacks.snowwy Thanks this. -
To me. Blowing money out the stacks is needless idling.
Sometimes temps are perfect for not idling when taking a 10. At night, trucks don't seem to realize how much temps are raised in between trucks compared to being 20 feet in front of trucks. Because they're all idling. Fans running, throwing engine and radiator heat all over the place.
Then you've got the guys who are running at way above idle speed. And their fans kicking off and on like crazy. Fix your ac and you wouldn't need to rev the engine and your fan would probably stay on longer.
And let's not forget the cheap freight threads that keep getting posted. A lot of you will argue. But i don't see a lot of american cowboys running around the highways these days. It's mostly foreigners. And all they care about. Is hauling freight. They don't bother to do the math.TheRipper Thanks this. -
The argument could be made that burning more fuel (gasoline, diesel, natural gas, etc) is "patriotic" and helps support the American worker, your 401k, and US roads.
"Buy Made In The USA"tucker Thanks this. -
You made offend some liberals with that haha

I say if 2400 miles a week @ 60 mph ....
(I wonder what the average speed is) works .. so be it -
I am highly suspect of all those numbers; They look exactly like they came out of the Irrational Pro-Star's trip computer. I suspect the real numbers are far less contrasting.
Time is money. If your used getting payed by the mile you tend to forget that. This whole millage mentality is the crap perpetrated by the mega that don't pay a truck driver for their time yet like to sell the false dream perpetrated by the fleece. The sales pitch goes like, " lease a truck, you can own it, if you just master getting more fuel economy then the next hapless fool we hire. " That isn't true. And if you run the real numbers, both business and fuel economy, you will generally find your time is worth more then the cost of fuel.DoneYourWay and Oxbow Thank this. -
Engine hours are still engine hours , regardless of highway speed or even sitting still idling . There might be less wear on the engine at an lower rpm, lDK
