    Hey,
I've applied for 2 positions with schneider. One being otr tankers with 6 days off a month the other being home weekly doing dedicated for target out of jacksonville. Does anyone have any insight on the pros and cons of these accounts?

Dedicated all the way. Hard to go home trying to get to Florida with a bulk load. You'll get your six days once you get there but you'll never be able to count on getting there. The pay and miles aren't consistent week to week and it's barely enough to eat on until you're good at it.

Those Target accounts may get boring but you'll know how much money you'll be getting every week and it's probably more than you can make in bulk the first couple of years. You can plan a life and budget around it.

I average 1300s a week , 1100 being my low and 1600s being my top weeks pay, I run 3 weeks at time. I know couple drivers out of Florida, they may park at savannah GA at the operating center.. I think so, or a tank wash south of that

Also I heard that Schneider only pays new drivers that have no experience 39cents a mile to pull tankers. They get a raise at 6 months and at 1 year. But I think this is way too low to start at when dealing with hazmat and pulling 80k pounds every day.. Tankers should start at 46 cents per mile if new or not I think at a minimum. But it is a good place to get trained and go from their..

I got my original prehire with bulk but wound up going dedicated. Can't really beat going home every weekend and knowing your routes. The miles are reliable too. From what I've read and with talking to drivers Bulk seems to be hit or miss. Don't get me wrong though, the same can be said for any schneider position I'm sure. Feast or famine, love or hate. Last summer I was at the Keasbey yard talking with half a dozen drivers that were there for 4 days with no work. Other than hearsay i know nothing of it so ill shut up now. Sounds like 19d is the guy to talk to though. Also @Thull. @ethos was at Schneider Bulk until not too long ago if I'm not mistaken.

For what it's worth, I did my week of training with a Target driver out of Stuart's Draft, VA. It was easy work, at least the stores we went to. All drop and hook and the other drivers there seemed pretty happy.

I would go Bulk. Schneider was good to me. You can cash in on that tanker experience in a year or so.

If you live in Jax I'd scoop up dedicated because who knows if it'd be available later.

I will gladly give you all the details about going to Schneider bulk after military retirement. The training is in Houston or Coraopolis PA, it's 2 or 3 weeks long I believe it was 3. First 3 or 4 days is orientation and filling out paperwork, drug test, physical test, heart rate test, it's all easy.. Tgen they train you on air and pump unloads and you do them everyday and start going out half the day when not doing unload training doing driving tanker training with a trainer. The trainers I had training me had worked at snbc for 26 to 29 years, very good guys and patient with us. At the end you will take test on air and pump and driving and pre trip which if I remember correctly. You have a cheat sheet to use for unloading and use it, don't miss any steps while being tested. After all this u get ur gear all issued to you and they give u a rental car to go to wherever your meeting your 2 week real job on the road trainer at. I went to my home operating center of Charlotte after I went to my house for a day and half. You will go otr or a local guy trains you for these last 2 weeks then you go back to Houston or corapolus to test again.. Tgen go home couple days and then to your home OC to get a truck and your on your on. You will be glad to get ur own truck but your by yourself at this time so be sure to have some phone numbers to call for answers cause you will run into somethings your not ready for. That's just part of any new job. You can use your military time to start off being paid good. If you drove big trucks in military then every year you were active duty transfers to 1 year pay scale at Schneider. So 20 years active in a driving mos you will start pretty much maxed out on pay in guessing. I was not a driving mos in Army so they use a quarter of time. So you did 20 years active would be 5 years start out at Schneider. I started at 46 cents a mile for loaded, empty or bobtail. U get 25 dollar loading pay and 35 dollar u loading pay and 10 hr detention pay, 65 a day layover. And training pay really sux it's only 80 a day. I wish the detention pay was higher like around 20 and the layover pay was atleast 120 but it is what it is. I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot so just ask, this all I can remember right now. Hope this helps you
