Been around oil patch all my life.
There is a limited supply of oil, maybe 200 years left. But we have more natural gas.Oxbow and Crusader66 Thank this. -
And they are finding more every year. Even Iraq has undiscovered oil ReserveCrusader66 Thanks this.

I started doomed for epic failure it appears. My first truck was a hood and a CAT. I wanted it based on pure emotion, I knew the truck quite well. No body took care of a truck like the man I bought it from. My point to all this rambling is I understand run it like a business, but pride is a #### emotion and if you don't take pride in your business it's doomed. Buy a good truck I agree 100%, I rather buy a #### fine hood at 10k more and ride off to go to work than buy a so so Aero based on fuel mileage. I'm not saying every hood is good and every aero is junk. I am saying a hood took #### good care of me.
Rant overDDlighttruck, Lone Ranger 13, Oxbow and 13 others Thank this. -
The dumbest thing i ever did was sell my hood.

Not gonna happen. You can blame the shale drillers for that. As soon as the price comes up enough for them to make money, they'll fire up again and flood the market.
And I'll be long dead when we run out of oil. I really don't care what happens after that point.Lone Ranger 13, Oxbow, HalpinUout and 3 others Thank this. -
I've got to add something, I don't look at the mileage thing, I bought a company with a 379 and a w900l in the fleet, those trucks returned good mileage numbers but that's not why I sold them.
I just don't have the room for them.
My drivers prefer the shorter nose trucks, so I have two types. but nevertheless, people get hung up on vanity and forget the specs, get the right tool and if that is a cab over, and it works, great but don't forget the specs. -
.10 cents a mile is 10,400 dollars a year if you only drive 2k miles per week. It's definitely way more than I spend on any of my luxuries. The gap between my apartment and the cheapest apartment I could ever see myself renting is only 400 bucks. My gym membership (the nicest I could buy) is only 180 for two people. Shopping for groceries at Whole Foods is only an extra 300 a month. Everything I buy that is nicer than the minimum probably comes to less than 1k every month. And that #### sure seems expensive to me, but I grew up poor so what do I know?
I sure hope that some day I can say that I don't care about 800 a month lol.
My point is that nickels add up REALLY fast when they are quantified per mile.PolishPrince Thanks this. -
The data says exactly the opposite actually. Global oil demand clearly peaked a few years ago. Other technologies are jockeying for a share of the energy (especially the energy for transportation part) market and we keep discovering new ways to open up new deposits.
Not to mention the fact that in 30-50 years all the oil in Antarctica and the North Pole region will be available for exploration. Oil companies have already lost billions trying to access the northern polar regions lol. If the prices ever get high again they'll get another shot at making it right.
Bottom line is I think the price of oil is going to bounce around but probably mostly stay under 90 bucks. Unless something happens that causes a demand spike or a supply crash. A huge war in the middle east could temporarily (but only temporarily) raise prices pretty high I guess. -
I guess you missed the part about more expensive maintenance and diminished resale value, nevermind the fact I enjoy driving it more than an aerodynamic plastic "truck". I guess everyone that drives faster than 57 mph is also an idiot. There used to be a member here who had it figured out 57 mph was the ideal speed for fuel economy.
I enjoy my work, for the most part. For me, part of that is when I am at a truck stop and look around and while my 389 isn't a show truck by any means, it still looks a lot cooler than all the aero trucks. Vanity? Call it what you want. I really don't care. If it was only about the dollars why would you ever buy a new car? Why not drive your old car until the wheels fall off? Point is we all have different desires. It's what makes us not communists.DDlighttruck, Lone Ranger 13, Oxbow and 4 others Thank this.
