If I was goin OTR i would go with SNI Over many of the others!
Thanks everyone this is a great forum
-
Great points made... good post! Thanks.

I've been on line and look at some companies.I keep going back to Schneider.
Are they as good as they say? I know jobs say what they need to say to get people. I like the
fact they say you can have a rider with you. Would love to have my son with me when he's
not in school. -
Depends on who you ask. Im with them and I like them, although im not a regular OTR driver either.
That is after six months....and you have to pay for a rider insurance thing as well. -
I doubt ANY company is as good as they say they are, and I doubt most companies are as bad as SOME folks say they are.
It depends more on what YOU think is a good fit, and find the company that fits you best.
Many of the truckin' companies allow riders.
Some allow pets.
But if I were you, I'd concentrate on a company that kept their
DRIVERS ridin' ---- on down the highway on a regular basis.
YOU'LL be ridin' more than your son.
But, ..... I agree.
It would be nice to take him along.
Keep in mind, with the way things are currently, not all companies are actively seeking trainees --- and it could come down to whichever company is hiring and will hire you.
It may not be the best.
It's up to you to decide if you're willing to make sacrifices or decline that offer, and hope another company will show interest at a later date.
Schneider's training program is considered one of the best in the industry. They're also known for being more picky in their hiring practices. And a company I'd recommend.
BTW -- Welcome to the forums.

If you need more money, come over to CRETE!
-
LOL! After 10 years with Acklie I finally put them permanently in my rear view mirror - it took 2 weeks since cleaning out my truck in Marietta and I am hiring with Schneider, running me in an identical fleet as I used to drive for Crete (General Mills) and I am being paid MORE.
Crete is not hiring in this area, or that, or this region, or that, and no, no room on this fleet or that, and they have dropped pay scales they had just one year ago. They are nickel and diming drivers to death with fuel routing, claiming the company deserves a $7 per tank break making a driver fuel twice a day which will cost the driver $6 in lost miles. Then they whine over idling - opti-idle dropped idling percentages by 60% in the last decade and now suddenly they want ANOTHER 25% cut from their employees safety and comfort (oh, ya gotta love a company that says they want their drivers legal and well rested yet make them sit in a drivers lounge for comfort instead of their own truck).
They are refusing to honor preplanned time off and forcing drivers to shift fleets.
Oh, and their 401k program sucks too, LOL! (cross fingers the final Wilkerson settlement doesn't bankrupt this self insured company if you work for them).
toot toot, cYa duane! -
Congratulations on your acceptance from Schneider.
I wish you the best of success.
As for what other companies are doin' that ain't makin' their drivers happy --- many are doin' that out of necessity.
The next step could be locked doors and EVERYbody in a company that goes under will probably be out of a job.
In short, they're desperate.
What does that have to do with their drivers?
Hmmmmmmmmm
Well, for starters, if making a few less dollars drivin' for a company on shakey ground doesn't satisfy a driver's need, they can stay on or get off.
Jump ship
or
remain with the captain?
Jumping ship can be tricky.
BB found a good gig with another company.
WhO that company is tells me BB is a pretty good driver.
Probably above average.
What about the average driver?
Hmmmmmmmm
I think there's hope and opportunity in remaing with a company
where drivers are jumpin' ship.
YuP!
Will it be a hassle?
YuP --- probably.
But companies also go by seniority in a lot of cases.
With a company experiencing a high turn-over rate, how long
do y'all reckon it'd take to reach the upper levels?
And, as you do, will YOU be ready to git 'er done?
Things could start happinin' quick.
If y'all can prove y'all can handle the worst, as you get your training, how hard can it be as you advance up the perverbial ladder?
You know what it's like at the bottom.
But have you any idea what it's like closer to the top?
Why not cowboy up and take a ride and see?
HiYo Kharma !

Schneider is a great starter company. Recently I just passed my 1 year mark and although I've had some problems here I have also enjoyed my time and don't intend on leaving any time soon. They keep me running for the most part which is tough in the economy right now. In regards to passengers they are pretty good about letting you take people. So far 4 different people have been out on the road with me with no issues. The insurance is pretty cheap too! I think for each person I paid $20 and it covers them for a month.
AfterShock Thanks this.
