Hello Everyone,
Is It Possible To Drive Without A Computer, Without A Cell Phone, & Without A GPS - Like Years Ago?
The plus side of all this is that the driver would positively lessen his or her chances of being accused of or charged with "distracted driving", texting, or anything else related to modern day technology.
The only thing that the driver would have in his or her truck would be either qualcomms or people net, and their e-logs.
I am NOT kidding when asking this question? Many people like to keep things as SIMPLE as possible, and still get the job done as quickly and safely as possible.
Please advise on the feasibility of this being possible.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

It's very simple, but you better take your radio out of the dash as well.
EastCoastResident Thanks this. -
It would NOT surprise me if a truck driver did have the radio taken out of the dashboard.
However, the radio would be an excellent tool for hearing weather broadcasts.
However, I was thinking in terms in which the driver would use atlases and maps, along with old fashioned pencil / pen and paper, and not have to worry about electronic breakdowns or being too dependent upon the electronics.

I get where you're coming from, but honestly I find the idea stupid. Almost as stupid as the steering wheel holders who don't know how to function without technology. The items are all tools, and the more tools you have the better you are, so long as you understand the limitation of those tools.
GPS - awesome, but it may not have accurate information about low bridges, seasonal road closures, or proper truck routes (even the truck GPS).
MOTOR CARRIERS ATLAS - it's going to give you the numbers to call for permits if needed, show where your scales and port of entries are, and will also list roads with seasonal closures. The downside, it takes a while to get really good at estimating your mileage.
Computer - you can get some up to date information for weather that your radio won't have, helps with trip planning more accurately.
Phone - road support, calling customers, think all the uses are fairly easily understood
CB- I don't carry one anymore, found it to be a waste 99% of the time. That 1% it might have been useful, I turned it off, because I got tired of the obscenities and the ignorance. -
Years ago there were pay phones everywhere now you won't find any except maybe a rest area so I would say a cell phone is vital. But all the GPS has done is make ppl lazy with looking at a map and reading signs.I bet most the new drivers don't even know how to read an understand an atlas.Longarm, EZ Money, scottlav46 and 2 others Thank this.

Payphones still exist.. And some still have dial tones.
SingingWolf, passingthru69, Suspect Zero and 1 other person Thank this. -
I don't even own an Atlas, just use Google maps lol
-
Do you know how difficult it is to find a pay phone?
Suspect Zero and Mike2633 Thank this. -
Shifty for directions sometimes, but I love being able to zoom in on a location and get a heads up of what to expect.
