I'm about to take my drivers test with an automatic transmission so when I pass I will have a restriction on my cdl. Is there plenty of jobs available with automatic trucks?

Why not get a standard tranny to test with?
There are a few places and I'm sure @Chinatown can tell you, but you are limiting yourself. I'd wait. You will always have issues until you do the test again 100% from the start to get rid of the restriction.

If you're not any good with manual and don't have time to learn, then it should not be a problem going auto. They are very widespread and even many non-training carriers are migrating to 100% auto fleets. In another few years, the entire north american fleet will likely be 80% auto, or more

    What? don't do that.

    Is this a serious conversation?

Get a manual, don't have your license restricted if you ever want to make money. Also, I don't even think most companies will hire you with that restriction because you aren't able to drive any truck they give you, only the automatics.

There's at least 50 jobs available to new grads. Most companies are auto now or will be soon.
Put you location & age on your profile and we'll help you find something.

    Try FFE (Frozen Food Express)
Try Roehl Transport - they pay you $500.00 weekly to train in their school.
Here's some that hire drivers with only a permit; you hire on as a drivers helper and drive as a trainee and get paid at the same time.
    J&M Move-It - in Houston
    Labatt Foodservice
    Reinhart Foodservice
    McLane Company
    XPO Logistics

Do the online applications, then make a phone call tomorrow. Apply for "driver helper" except for FFE and Roehl. For FFE & Roehl, apply for school for additional training; They'll probably fast track you and have you on the road quickly.

Ive driven both. You dont want an automatic for any reason in a vehicle designed for the weight we deal with.

Automatics have come a long way since they first came in popularity years back. I have never driven one, just going by what I read on here, the magazines and talking to drivers I see who have autos... I'm not what kind of weight your talking (since I know majority of the US is 80,000lbs only minus some states and special rules), he in Ontario the weight limit (without permits) is about 140,000lbs and I'll tell, the company who hauls our garbage material (we only haul recycling, yardwaste and foodwaste) use automatics and don't seem to have issues with them.

From what I can see, automatics are here and only growing in the popularity. My company still has 18's and some days I wish I was in an auto.. The traffic in Toronto is brutal !!!!!
