How do you route to avoid no truck routes and low clearances?

It's the phone. I haven't seen a working pay phone in a long, long time.

I used to have Thomas Guides for most of LA and Bay area, but they were expensive and not great at being up to date.

I mostly run in Midwest, that is not a problem over here. In the rare occasion when I have to go lets say to PA , I preplan, using Google satellite zoom view to check on the best roads. I also have Copilot app for trucks and of course just watch for the road signs. I should get an atlas, just did not really have a need for it.
Edit. Just noticed you are from NY, I gotta admit it is pretty tough in those areas without an atlas, but again, I mostly work in easy areas

NO GPS and NO MAPS for me... The good ole local driving to the good ole same customers....

When I do need to go to a new place.. then yes I will pull out a map book.. I have a GPS but the map book is my go-to on the rare occasion I need it...

Cellphone - Nope this will not be left behind... I have on occasion forgotten it and man does it suck on the days that I have.. Pay phones are pretty much extinct..

Funny thing about debating technology is... If it wasn't for technology you wouldn't be asking this question on the world wide web haha ;) Nor getting all the good information this site has to offer.. So thank god for technology :)

I will agree... Everyone should know how to read and use the maps... When I was OTR I never used a GPS, I don't even think we had GPS then or they were a new concept (14years ago)... Nothing like going thru multiple pages to plan out your route...

I'm in between the two universes of trucking at 53 yrs old and 32 years driving .
I still run a cb and always will but it isn't always on .
I use my GPS but always confirm things with my atlas or a phone call when going into uncharted territory.
Goggle is so handy for lots of things !
I don't think elogs should be law or are for everyone but I really don't miss screwing around with a log book.
    Love my smart phone too.

    passingthru69 and lonewolf4ad Thank this.
