Buying first truck. Thinking Pete 379

I once took a nap on a sunny summer day in my sleeper in the Mobile Al area with the truck turned off because I didn't wanna burn the fuel. And that was when fuel was about $ 1.25 / gallon.
I could've been nice and cool for about 2 or 3 bucks.

 

I talked to my bud this morning. His is an 03 with a factory DDEC V 500 hp and 13 speed. 379 extended hood. Says he is 6.5mpg pulling crushed cars on a flatbed. He has a dedicated deal over to Jackson TN daily.

 

Thanks man. That helps me in my search. You will still be a rare find. The 127 bbc 260+wb with a Detroit wasnt exactly common. Almost everyone went with a cat.

 

Your right he said he looked a long time, but brought home what I think is a very nice truck for just over 20k

 

Not to argue, but how do you know the number of failing old school owner operators is increasing rapidly ?

Furthermore, if 1 mpg difference in fuel economy can put you outta business, you weren't going to last anyway.

Definately cheaper than a glider, which is my other option. And since I've got a good running truck, i don't need one in perfect condition. I can take time to get it just right before moving into it.

People have been predicting that we are running out of oil ever since it was discovered.
Have you noticed the big oil fields that are getting discovered and there is now technology to get oil that was previously out of reach.

Bring on the big hoods with big motors . There will be plenty of diesel for everyone!
