We are going to add a flatbed to our fleet for local hauling. To that end, we have a nice headache rack that was on our Peterbilt. Fit up good and tight to the cab. On the International there is a single exhaust that is bolted to the frame aft of the sleeper. This interferes with the headache mounting and has to mount further back due to this. Looks bad. Thought maybe a trailer with a headache mounted on the front of the trailer may be a solution. Do they make a headache with an offset for this sort of stack arrangement?

    Advice?

Yes, there are racks built with one side missing to work around single stacks on the back of the sleeper.

I see that your profile lists you as being located in Salem, IL. If that's right then you should give Tri City Canvas Products over in Granite City a call. They are great to work with and have reasonable prices.

If they don't have what you want in stock they can order it.

    Here's their website:

This is an option as well. Looks better than the single stack too.

Headache rack or chain rack are alternate names for a cab protector.

A Headboard, headerboard or bulkhead would be the ones mounted to the front of the trailer.

You can have either or both.

They are not required for most flatbed freight with in the DOT rules. Now what a shipper may require is a whole different can of worms, and not something to get into here.

A cab protector does not have to mount within a set distance from the cab. As you have described, having a single stack between the cab and the cab protector is nothing new. Have had ones like that for years. While it may not be aesthetically appealing as you would like, it works. It does require mounting the protector a farther back.

If you do a google search on " cab protctor for semi trucks"
you should get a number of links. Merrit, protech are a few quality manufacturers.

Straight pipe it. Rack can be within 8 inches or so then.

He's mounting a headache rack on an international. The mufflers are huge and cause one to mount the rack 1.5 feet off the sleeper. Straight pipe it and it can be moved closer to the sleeper by a bunch.
