Several years back the local Flying J had to shut down their buffet due to several people coming down sick due to one of the cooks not washing their hands (think POOP here!!)

I went to the main Flying J website and looked at the PDF file that has the most recent Long Haul magazine edition from July 2008. The only thing I could find is that it mentioned backyard BBQ offerings in the next two months at their restuarants. I did not see any mention of what their statements were about removing buffets from Flying J's nationwide.

On the second note, yes, that's a good idea to contact the Flying J customer service and to tell them that at least one camper is unhappy about the yanking out of buffets in the Flying J chain.

Good point. It's required by local health department codes that workers must wash hands after doing various activities. I always thought that the same thing should apply to customers. So, that's why I always wash my hands after using the restroom and wash my hands after getting seconds, etc. and a new plate (s) of food.

My post got edited because we cannot post an email address. The site does not yet have the newest Long Haul up but they are showing up in mailboxes starting this week, if you receive them.
The article isn't about removing buffets but it is about quality of service and a few other things. Many of the posts have been about bad service and bad food.

Everyone I been to has closed at night, where were you at?

I hope not I hate eating fast food all the time..

WOW I always found things was cheaper than the Pilots,T/A and Petro.

Last Thanksgiving I was in NC at the Petro, Their Buffet was the pitts. I went down to the Flying J where the mash potatos was mashed and did not have rocks in them like the Petro's and the J did have Dressing (Stuffing) where the Petro did not. I had to lay over and wait to unload friday in Greenboro.

But it all on each and all different taste buds. To me the J's food no different than Petro or the T/A's Prices about the same. J's a few cents cheaper I believe. I leave out of the J with a bill under 11.00 Petro of the same thing under 12.00.

I don't normally go to truck stops to eat. However, I did stop at the Flying J in Ehrenberg, AZ last week and found that there was a sign announcing that the restaurant was closed 1:30 am to 5:00 am each day.

I do not know if those signs are at the other places or not. It was the first time I had ate at a truck stop in 3 months.

    Oh?

Yes, I do receive a hard copy of the Long Haul magazine, so, I will be looking for it.

Comments about bad food and bad service in the magazine? Hmmm ... I will look forward to reading that.

In about a week I will be going to "South of the James" Virginia and will stop by the Flying J in Carmel Church, Virginia on my way down there. I cross my fingers that their buffet is still operating.

Browns on I-30 at exit 118 or is that 117?? Has a place to park and good buffet, homemade taste, a little hard to get to if you are going east. I wish I could recommend good food/good prices/place to park for you guys. My mom can cook like an angel and I wish I could put in a nice place for everyone to eat. I've never understood why truckers are charged so much to eat.

Probably a blessing in disguise. Flying J chicken strips are so #### good though, and at 5.99 a pound, a great on the road meal!
