No ca pay is higher then most due to the cost of living especially in the Bay area and near Los Angeles. Also I don't haul fuel anymore I'm doing Cryogenics, and man its the best out of all the tanker gigs I've had from Oil,chemicals, and fuel. Yeah I think my first year back 6 years ago was about 38k, but I got that first year in and the old timers were right the doors opened.

$1000 gross is about $800 net. No company can guess your tax situation & amount of insurance deductions so their guarantee is always before taxes. -
Oh yeah, I realize taxes. Plus any other deductions that may be taken out such as child support or whatever. I'm just saying, they guaranteed $1k, and said that drivers could easily top that after figuring out how to run in their system. I'm just wondering how it is that there were guys only bringing home $600. Either the recruiter was blowing smoke, or something else was up. TMC is one of my target companies, so I'm curious.

As a newbie you will find that you get paid the very minimum you will accept. It is up to you to demand better pay. If you figure 120,000 miles a year @ .45 per mile then $54,000 gross is the minimum you should accept. Now I have heard that Pam pays its first year drivers 28cpm. That is $33,600 per year. Offer me that and I would have to start a union and go on strike.
This is a profession. We are under attack on many different fronts. If you as a new driver are coming in and working for less wages then those who have been out here for awhile, you are not doing the industry any favors. Demand higher pay.
A new Burlington Northern Carman makes $30 per hour. 5 days a week and home every night. It is a good job. Fun. They are hiring. The reason they make more money then a new driver is that they refuse to work for less. The Railroads are hiring. -
New students out of school make 44 cpm
...how can this be? -
If you go home weekly and stay mostly within the same region, combined with burning your clock waiting on cranes and whatnot for loading, then securement etc... it's easy to see how.
Most guys at TMC take the percentage of the load option though. And my understanding based on the few guys I have talked to is that they average about 2200-2500 miles. Now tax that.
