Won't really matter until you fall off the trailer and break something. Better hope you are logged on duty when that happens.

Would not matter how its logged its workmans comp.
-
Can log off duty then fall out of the cab while exiting to go eat, it's workers comp
-
Depends on who gets called. Can't really sell the, "I was just checking my load.", when the tarps are half on/off and the ambulance and police show up. Then it's a log violation.
I could be wrong. -
It is highly unlikely anyone would check logs in that situation
-
Heh. You mean the safety department that wants to have a camera on you 24/7 wouldn't check?tscottme Thanks this.

As far as the law goes in lament terms of anyone considers it work it's on duty or on duty driving if your driving of course.... A few other things can still be considered work that many would not consider for instance.... Watching mister red light on the dock door law says your working... I say I am watching you tube and keeping an eye on the light so I know when I got to go back to work
KMac and cjb logistics Thank this. -
You could skate by the issue by logging it as on duty for 15 minutes even thought it may take an hour to complete the task. The same with logging time spent loading and unloading. 15 min is the general rule when arriving at the reciever, you must account for the time somewhere in the process of picking up or delivering. The DOT may catch you falsifying your logs if you are given a level one inspection if you omit the time required to log on duty while performing your duty as a commercial driver. The fact is that load has to be secured regardless of a tarp or not. Keep it legal and you won't have issues later when the public safety department challenges you.

This is exactly why we need to go to elogs to stop all this non recording of on duty time!
Wait that won't work either....
Well scrap the elog idea.nax Thanks this. -
