All rates coming out of the valley are terrible. When we go down there I don't even look I just deadhead out. Mostly, I don't take loads down there.

I doubt you'll get a lot of help here. The info you seek is closely guarded by folks in both hotshot and big trucks. So, I doubt you'll find anyone who is going to teach you what you should have known BEFORE you went into business. I don't mean any offense by it. It's just the way it is.

I'm guessing you bought a truck before doing your homework, usually not the right way to do things.

He may just be wanting to stay closer to home. Whichever is fine, but there are just too many hombres down there coming this way for anything to ever pay well coming out of there except for oversize and those are few and far between.

I run the same lane every week, so I pay attention to what trucks or companies are running my lane.

That is how I picked up one of my more lucrative accounts. Saw this guy running the desert with no A/C. Looked them up on the internet and stopped by their office in Gardena, CA and talked to the supervisor. He looked at my equipment, talked about what they do, but said they didn't need any help right now. Not more than 2 months later, he calls me up to ask if I'm still available to take on this run.

Turns out they picked up a new contract that required that driver running the desert to do local picks & deliveries with his box truck.

So basically, it comes down to knocking on doors.

Like Forrest Gump says, Ya never know what your gonna get.

@Bakerman - I read somewhere that Uber is now in the brokerage business. Do you know if that's true or not?
