Money is all over the place. Remember people want to pay you nothing and keep everything.
Yes you can buy a truck and work for someone else and use their DOT numbers. It's called lessing. Ex you lease your truck onto a carrier. They will pay you % of the load. Or mileage. %is usually better for you. -
% or miles, you should look to run minimum 10,000 miles/month to make a few bucks, you'll make better income if you can run 11-12,000. These are averages, not peak months, btw. At least, that's what I've seen.

I don't feel that is necessarily true. You have to look at the whole picture. A lot of miles doesn't always mean a lot of money. I only run 75,000 miles per year yet my profit margins are far higher now then they were running 125000 a year. My gross revenue is also higher with less fuel costs. You must look at money per mile, per day, per hour. Profitability is what you are looking for, not just mileslarry2903, Starboyjim, Chickadee and 9 others Thank this.

LoJack, you run fb though don't you? He's in a van or reefer. Flatbed, you guys make twice as much and run half as far as us vans do. In general I mean, say $2 a mile vs. $4 a mile flat. But you are still right in that you have to look at whole picture.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
FB does get a little better pay. But I know van guys that run like me and get paid like me. You have to find your market, that's all.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I run power only. I have contracts with 2 customers, pulling their trailers, delivering their products. But yes it is a little more specialized

Lojack I keep telling drivers that but they letting these companies and brokers keep feeding them that bs about they have to run a lot of miles to see good money.Lepton1, murat and LoJackDatHo Thank this.

For some reason, guys have it in their head that miles=$. I wish people could realize that you have to look at big picture. Money per mile/day/hour/week. I've said this in other posts, $5.00/mile sounds good, but not if your running only 10 miles a day. $100/hour sounds good, but not if it's only 10 hours a week.
4000 mile a week sounds good, but not at $1.00 per mile. Have to look at all variables, then decide what you need to make, and go after it. Brokers don't seem to know or care what a truck needs, they just need to move the loads and get the work done as cheap as possible.TmGM, larry2903, Diesel Dave and 7 others Thank this. -
I have learned in my short time as a company driver and now owner operator, I ignore the help wanted adds that include the words more miles or sign on bonus.
Starboyjim, Lepton1 and 7seriestv Thank this.
