The answer to that is complicated. (1) Tell him for the benefit of all in the industry. (Doing it right reduces the need for excessive regulations.) (2) Or just let Darwin weed out the herd. (3)Risk being told to mind his business. (4) Less competition could be good for him (Old Man). You get the point.

Would it be wrong to throw out the name of the company this idiot works for?

I tried that once. It didn't go well. The gentleman in question was securing a pallet of banded "subs" with a single strap. Almost a ton of oil field tools on a pallet, banded so the strap touched only three of eight subs.

Open deckers tend to be stubborn at times. Well, more than just at times. We all have our own way of organizing our equipment, throwing straps and chains, and have our own methods. I know if someone comes up to me offering advice without invitation it can put me off.

That gentleman with the pallet of subs drove out of the yard with that one strap "as is". He pretty much said he didn't give a rat's hiney. He didn't seem to be a good recruiter for his company either.

There was a time long ago that seeing something like this would have led to some suggestion to the driver

Today, the mind your own and other poor attitudes from drivers guarantees that all they will get is a head shake.

I have actually called a port when someone passed me losing pieces off the trailer and not answering the CB. I had to dodge boards all the way in there. When I got there they were pulling him into the barn.

Yet another reason to have a CB in your truck. Not that the boards were going to kill someone but #### I do have an oil pan that I need.

He knows how to do it correctly. He delivered a 15 tall load without hitting anything. So, what's his problem?

There is a danger in our line of work, that begins the very moment that we don't bring the A Game. We began to go down a dark path. We do enough to get by. 'Git er done' is not in an A Game driver's vocabulary. We become complacent. We began to slack. Take shortcuts. Halfsteppin. And before you know it, tying straps into knots is acceptable securement. When someone steps to a halfsteppin slacker, he gets butthurt and pissy.

He didnt start slacking on a 15 tall load. He started slacking on a 10 wide. All he had to do is go by the local Home Depot and buy a case of 2 inch straps with ratchets (I think 6 come in a case at $15 each). This is the open deck equivalent of a driver refusing to shower and wipe his arse. When a guy walks around in public smelling like arse, do you say anything to him?

"Hey driver, did you know you smell like arse? You really need to wipe and shower."

"YOU MIND YOUR OWN HYGIENE AND I'LL MIND MINES."
