when we were withdrawing from the middle east and reducing our military there was an organised effort to get companies to hire and train discharged veterans
the megas have been criticized for their participation in this program here automaticaly from the start
its seemed like a sure thing that a vet that completed basic training and overseas deployments and was honorably discharged would handle a year at the big training company and go on to a successful career.
are there any recent successful veteran truckers out there?Last edited: Mar 18, 2017

15 years experience for mega carrier with low pay and slow stripped Crapcadias!
Now a thread complaining? What did you expect?
Maybe give CR England or Swift a shot next, surely they will be a lot better
Dryver Thanks this. -
Well, some drivers pay thousands for a cdl school, then hire on with those same companies you listed. I don't get it either. Maybe they're so excited about a new career they sign on with the first company they see a poster of in the cdl school.
"I chose XYZ Company because they had this beautiful poster over the urinal in CDL school rest room."Last edited: Mar 18, 2017
TequilaSunrise, mjd4277, drvrtech77 and 4 others Thank this. -
I'd have to go along with MACK E-6 on this one, the impression I took from the original post was that the recruiter made certain promises that might be above the norm based on his being a veteran. I could be totally wrong though, seems to happen to me more times then not.
I only know about 6 months ago a Schneider recruiter told me flat out 2200 miles a week average. Don't remember what the CPM was but I remember it was low enough to where I couldn't afford to take a job with them unless it came down to that or unemployment.
BTW... I love Harry Callahan, but he had that whole hot dog thing wrong, ketchup rules.TequilaSunrise and driverjoe1959 Thank this. -
I still can't get past "15 years driving", and yet CHOSE to go to Schneider?
I'm not saying that Big Orange isn't a good fit for some drivers, but with 15 years experience, you should've KNOWN you were being lied to....KillingTime and Crusader66 Thank this. -
From my dealing with recruiters you're giving the recruiter too much credit like they intentionally deceived the guy. On the contrary I doubt the recruiter has any clue about operations.
Most likely scenario is the recruiter is used to dealing with less experienced candidates and just gave the guy the canned ham script/pitch that they give every ex military recruit. Like they have any idea how many miles operations is going to give the guy.OPUS 7 and Crusader66 Thank this. -
TMC does the same thing to/for Veterans, like you get some sort of preferential treatment or something. The only thing I've ever taken out of it from my time with Schnieder and what I've read about TMC is that they are both run like the military and that's it. A lot of ex-military in the office positions.
I think they try to sell the.....We offer this and that for Vet's for the familiarity of it for separating members. I always looked at it like, come hire on with us and get special treatment.....wink, wink, but that's just me.4mer trucker and stevep1977 Thank this. -
Don't forget that these carriers get government money for placing military vets in jobs. It's not just creating the aura that they are pro military, it's also because they are pro government payments tooOPUS 7 and Crusader66 Thank this.

OK, isn't it about time everyone realizes that recruiters lie, THEY LIE! LIE! LIE!
Growing tired of seeing " the recruiter promised . . . " " The recruiter said . . . "
Are all new truck drivers this naive and green behind the ears?
