I hate PA. Hate it hate it hate it.

Tug toy if I were you I'd keep what you got if you're prepared to keep it running well. You never know if the market will tank or something. Pay off your truck if you haven't yet and that's a bird in the hand. Having that off your back will provide you with a lot of relief. A lot off your shoulders.

As far as myself, I know I have a lot on my shoulders. I'm at a point I'm my life where I need this. I need the challenge to grow as a person, and in the last couple months I think I have grown a bit. I feel so far I'm riding to the challenge. I never knew a thing about calling on loads and now I'm doing it regularly and able to get what I need and even a handful of what I want. This week out of 5 loads, I booked 3 of them myself.

I have a problem though of being indecisive. I'm so #### cheap that I only order off the dollar menu and if they don't have one, I seriously think about just going hungry for a few more hours. I have a problem taking a cheap load. I'm afraid that Monday I may sit overnight in PA because I won't be able to accept crap to get out of here. I'll keep saying no because I want more and hoping I'll get it. This has happened with me like 3 times. I'll keep telling my dispatch guy no, and then he'll say "I think we have to move now, it's getting late" and a couple times I just sat. Stupid decision. So that's something I'm working on, is being able to make a decision quickly, and knowing when I should make it, when I should hold out. Even in a good market - how long should I hold out for the money? In PA - i probably should take whatever I can going south but I'm seeing rates like 1.00-1.20 going south, $1.50-1.70 to Florida. I'm hoping that the weather last week created a backlog here and that Monday will be good - and I'll convince myself that someone absolutely needs my truck and will beg me to AL for $1.80+. And it will never come and I'll be disappointed and I'll sit and I'll feel guilty and angry. And if I take the cheap crap then I'll feel guilty and angry. Lol. Gimme the #### money!

Thanks and I agree. My point was more to the fact of defending your position of a brand new truck. I spent almost brand new truck money last year and will again this year. Hopefully the next 3 years will be less? You will have a great few years after your truck is paid off if you continue to use it or trade it in on a new one with your residual. $2400 a month is steep but i spent that on old equipment and have $0 value left.
@WonderBoy you are braver than I was when I started and I wanted to minimize my risk. You seem to understand the risk but we're confident you would succeed. A great trait!

Lol...I'm not confident I'll succeed...I'm just hoping I do. If I had control of all the variables...Sure...But I don't. I could kill someone this week and it's over. It could be a complete accident. But it wouldn't matter. My engine could blow. Warranty, sure - lost time, not covered. I'm gonna die anyway so im not worried about finances, I'm worried about doing the best I can at this because that's the point of it. The life challenge.

About the only way to get a decent rate per mile out of Scranton is do short hops south or west. If you don't mind multi stop loads, shrubbery should be loading in south jersey. Probably 5-10 stops.

I was in PA last week. Me too,i hate it. I go there maybe once in 3 months.
I got good load out of chicago,750 miles $2300 10,000lbs. I delivered there on wednesday, day after snow storm and was hoping for something nice to fl,but no,80% of loads went furher east,ny,vt,ma,nj,ct. No thanks.
Took landstar load out of pa to wi. 950 miles $1500.

It's the conundrum of finding your own loads. Darned if you do and darned if you don't. For a flatbedder like myself getting a load on a weekend, for pickup or delivery, is pretty much non-existent. Fairly often I will choose do deadhead over the weekend to put myself back "on the board" for oil equipment loads out of OKC. Then I second guess my choice if I sit in OKC on Monday.

My situation is different than yours. You will learn the ropes. The name of the game is maximize revenue each week, while minimizing fuel expenses.

I am known for being outspoken and saying things that most people don't wanna say.

I give OP/BoyWanderER 3 months. He will sell his truck and wrap up and sit at home. I mean look at some hard workers we have on this forum like oldman, blair, and doubleyellow. This kid is planning to take 8 weeks off for playing ping-pong, when it happens to be the paying period after a long spell.

Look at the start of this thread and see how 98% of the loads were discarded by this boy for not being good enough. They were alright given the market, but nobody promised you $3 loads just because you have a brand new Vovlvo. That is your problem not the customers. Their freight will go from point A to B in 2005 Cascadia just as fine, driven by a driver with more experience and less attitude.
