Get window screens and a reflective windshield cover. They work wonders for keeping the cab cooler. Park in the shade if it is an option. When running in the west pay attention to elevation. Take a 10 at higher elevations to stay cooler.

IMO. I'm going to be comfortable while on the road. When it's hot out, do you turn the AC of at home? When it's cold, do you turn off the heat. Driver comfort is important to me. If I can't afford the 8 gallons of fuel to sleep comfortably, I need to quit. Even at $3.00/gallon fuel that's only $24 for the night. Also a motel room is more than that.

I have window screens, a fan, a generator and window ac. While I can well afford the fuel to idle the truck, I want to keep the hours off the engine to prolong its life and the DPF systems really don't like to idle. I actually sleep better with the generator running instead of the big motor. I tried one of those portable units with the hose out the window, it didn't work worth a ####, don't know if other brands work better.

If my truck was newer and had all that emissions crap, I would probably feel differently. Luckily don't have to worry about that. But if I did, TK APU all the way

I can stand the sound of an idling truck but that APU farting drives me nuts. I would imagine that for 12 grand they should muffle it somehow and make it so I don't smell the fumes. It is a primitive device that they sell you for 12 grand... It resembles what the ObamaCare is now. The self installed generators I see on catwalks are what? 1000 maybe? They less noisy too.

I agree, I welded up a bracket and mounted my generator where the APU use to be, have a whole $400 invested instead of over 10k

If it's running right you shouldn't be smelling any fumes. The only time I smell my APU is when the air filter needs changing.

Most people don't know that Most trucks don't come with Insulation, thats a added package when you buy new, most dealerships can run the vin & tell you if your insulated or standard..

if standard your probly a little hotter or colder than most depending on the season,GOOD NEWS is you can INSULATE TRUCK yourself with a few bucks, just need that extra elbow grease to pull them wall panels n top bunk down and go back up with it,

but it's not hard and inexpensive I'd start there, thats how I did mines and I also got a Generator & 5000 BTU 4.9 amps 530 watts,Close curtains at night n kill truck, dont need the extra wear and tear on my bearings.
