I love the volvo ishift. I ABUSED the heck out of mine in the oilfield and it never skipped a beat.
The volvo 780 is going to have a better sleep with better storage.
The Detroit engine and power train combo is looking very promising. I love all the adaptive cruise and GPS terrain learning and what not but if course you pay for it.
One thing that got me into volvo was Thier crash testing. While freightliner is the only one who owns Thier own wind tunnel, volvo is that passionate about crash testing safety. I don't usually crash a big rigs but if I do, I hope I'm in a volvo.
Back to autos. I think the new ones either way are amazing. You'd probably be happy either way.

I have 1,790,000 miles on my original 780/ Volvo D13 and Eaton 13 manual. I got home from Texas with 8.6 mpg .Not perfect, but i would get a Volvo again, no doubt.
RollingRecaps, Chinatown and dustinbrock Thank this. -
Checked out a 2013 780 with a D13 - #### it was a beautiful truck.
It had about 800,000 KILOMETRES. The factory warranty was expired, owner operated who has been retired. Volvo dealer were selling it and it was a well known truck at the dealer because it was always serviced there.
They do have an extended warranty for an extra $8000cad
The asking price is about $72000CAD - very little room for negotiation.
Tomorrow I will be checking out a 2013 cascadia which is for a lot cheaper, second owner operator. -
Either having trouble changing gears or hiring someone that don't know how to drive one.

Just please remember ONE thing that an ole timer once told me..." I can get ANY monkey to hold a steering wheel" and he was referring to automatic trucks. It takes talent, experience, common sense, to shift and control a semi with a load on. Are you a Monkey?? Or are you talent? You decide what your talent or lack there of....
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
I've hired 3....... yes 3 old guys who pissed and moaned about driving my auto. I stuck em in that truck and told em we could get them rotated out into another one if thet didn't like it. You couldn't pry them out to save your life, all 3 of them loved the Ishift and the way the truck rode.
There's no place in business for ego. Thats cowboy trucking. -
Who wants a manual, thats been shifted by a student, for 300,000 miles?
Manuals suck, and so does super trucker, that love them. -
I drove an auto cascadia in Duluth in the snow. I hated it and was downright dangerous.
I drive a Volvo 670 d13 now with a 10 speed. It's a MUCH better truck. No experience with I shift so I can't comment on that. -
@aussiejosh After I pressed the reply button, I saw this was a O/O thread, and I don't post in O/O threads, because I ain't one. And then I was afraid it would turn into a pissin' match about automatics. I'm out. Sorry OP.
