When Swift and flatbed are mentioned in the same breath I get a sickening feeling in my gut.

I don't think you need experience to start with there flatbed division. I remember in orientation they asked who wanted to pull flatbeds and they sent them to Phoenix to go through some load securement classes. I've also heard they have you pull a regular flatbed trailer for 6 months then you can move to step deck. Hope this helps.FerrissWheel and Puppage Thank this.

Nope, you can start completely new and go to flatbed. They prefer it that way. Otherwise you do a division transfer and that takes 6 months before you can transfer over.
Just tell the recruiter you want to do flatbed. They are trying very hard to make sure Flatbedders end up with flatbed mentors. There may be a wait. But it will be worth it. To many guys were ending up with van drivers. Seems they finally put thier foot down on that, and arev making sure new students go to flatbed mentors.
If your having problems with the recruiters getting you into flatbed just tell me. I'll give you the # to the ops manager in your area.
But the recruiter should be able to set you up. -
