When we had them if it rained or snowed guys would just scan the tags and get back to the heated truck without inspecting anything
on paper its a good idea but its pretty dumb. Atleast with the rfid tags you can rip them off and scan them inside your truck
91B20H8, PoleCrusher, TennMan and 1 other person Thank this. -
Hell you wouldn't even need to do that. You could just take a pic of the bar codes on your phone and scan them. You wouldn't even need to get out at all if you really wanted to be lazy. Easy work around.

My carrier is all E-xxxxx, what ever you can imagine. Even E-DVIR. I'm still on P-DVIR (paper) and still works.
What the hell should the scanning be for? The focus should be on the item and not on the barcode.
I once took a course that was called "train the trainer".
That instructor could sing that Pretrip-Song perfectly. But he did not see that the turn signal didn't work. He was stunned when I brought it to his attention.ethos Thanks this. -
Im assuming the scanning is for equipment failures. Like ' I have proof my driver checked his truck before the equipment failure happened' either that or babysitting the noobies
morpheus Thanks this. -
I see plenty of people NOT doing a pretrip. Personally I do one for several reasons. 1 I'm still very new and scared to death of being the cause of an accident because I screwed up. 2 I like my life enough to want to keep living it. And 3 I just started this job and Don't feel like getting fired and owing the company money.
Have to agree on barcodes quickly becoming a pita because of dirt and grease.gentleroger, ethos and 48Packard Thank this. -
People will become more focused on scanning the barcodes and making sure they don't miss the thing and will overlook the pretrip.
Again Schneider trying to replace proper training with technology.
There's a whole department in GB that has to think these things up just to justify their jobs!
Technology will be the death of us all.
I bet they tie the barcodes into the ignition so the truck won't start without having scanned the barcodes.
Just wait til that malfunction happens.gentleroger and PoleCrusher Thank this. -
An old DOT officer in Utah, he seemed to be an ex-driver once said to me: "do your walk around every day and you're off the hook".
He is absolute right. And every time you hook up to a different trailer.
But the problem is drivers who don't see the issue (like the instructor mentioned anove) or don't care.48Packard Thanks this. -
I think it may be a UPC reading device that I use at my retail job for doing inventory and orders. I use a small device about 2 inches thick and the size of a cell phone.
The laminated tags would have to be very durable and adhered to the location properly.tony97905 Thanks this. -
This is a joke. I see the guys in the local grocery stores doing this when they're walking around with a bucket "cleaning". They have to scan a code in each area to show they've looked there but I never actually see them clean anything.
Just because you scanned the barcode doesn't mean you touched a thing.driverdriver, 91B20H8, morpheus and 3 others Thank this.
