Well the guy I'm leased to has a fleet of 3 Kenworth 680s that were about $140k new in 2013. One got a new crate motor at 340k miles (out of warranty) 8 weeks in the shop. The one I drove was in the shop 2 times during the 6 or so months I drove it at over $4k each for DPF issues. 2 of them have had the AC compressors replaced. All three had to have the bunk heater lines replaced. All three got new fuel pumps because of the plungers at the owners cost. (Reason for new engine but not in the recall serial numbers) One needed a starter. Another got a new turbo and actuator at over $7k. All three trucks have spent countless days in the shop. The owner doesent think he has spent that much on them but at $125.00 an hour. One hit a dear doing over $26k worth of damage to the truck.
That is why they scare me. Some guys say they have good luck and the guy I'm leased to swears by new trucks. He has a 07 t600 with a cat at 1.5mm that I have only seen in the shop once for the blinkers not working. Everything else done in our shop but just maintince stuff. But said he would only buy new going forward. He is looking at new trucks as we speak.

If you don't run cali. A glider would be better than a emissions truck.
singlescrewshaker, Tug Toy and ramblingman Thank this. -
No California. Looked at some gliders too but,,,,,, I would only buy one with a factory installed Detroit. None of that Fitzgerald built engine crap. I found one that was specked like I would want with only 40k miles on it but no warranty. Not transferable. Still would have the multiplex wire and in a Freightshaker. I looked at ordering one to build myself in December but won't sell them to the public anymore.
I still like the indipendince of inexpensive truck. Not a slave to the buissness. If I want to take some time off I just take it. No stress.singlescrewshaker, tommymonza, 59MackB61 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I gave up my brand new truck once my one year lease was up. I bought a 2011 cascadia with 725k on it. The truck was in pretty good shape & does not have DEF but does have the other emissions crap. I got the truck in early November & so far I've put a clutch in it, replaced serp belt & tensioner, new steer tires, & a dpf. I'm still pleased & I really like the $800 a month payment.Tug Toy and strollinruss Thank this. -
We buy rebuilt transmissions from reputable dealers with warranty. Check out the gear center in Edmonton Ab Canada. Then hire someone to swap it out if u can't do it yourself.
Engines are always the ones that get expensive.
My advice, look for someone with a recent rebuild preferably cat. Proven reliability. Cheaper to maintain.
Ihc trucks that's what we run, can't say they are better or worse than any other. I just know where to look when there's issues.
Hope this helpsTug Toy Thanks this. -
