I'm not going to comment, other than the outcome of the suit, if it's not dismissed before hearing it, may surprise people. I agree with the rest of you, and if he hadn't made a big deal of it, the problem would have disappeared.

We had a lady of the Jewish faith that worked in the office when I was in accounting. She made a big deal about everyone getting Christmas off. She wanted time off for her holidays.
Amazing thing happened. She got them all including the regular employee ones. -

Christmas Trees are not a Christian symbol - their association with the Holidays is a carryover from Pagan Nordic lore....prisonerofthehwy Thanks this. -
The Christmas tree tradition stems from the celtic history of the ancient druid "priests" who worshiped the "sacred grove of trees" on the winter solstice (December 21). They decorated trees with fruit and nuts to encourage the sun to return. They also burned a log (now called the yule log) and the festivities would last as long as this huge log would burn. Sometimes for the full 12 days of the season. In addition, a part of the celebrations were to to house to house lighting logs and dancing. They would sing in effort to drive away spirits who wanted to keep the sun from the earth.
Nicholas, a bishop in the Greek Church at Antioch (around 300AD) began a tradition of holding "Children's Day" upon which he would give the children parties, presents and special treats. His tradition was picked up and carried out by others crossing into numerous countries through the Catholic Church. Although the Catholic church made him a Saint upon his death (Saint Nicholas) the early church believed parties and festivities to be a sin and they put an end to "Children's Day". This act of banning Children's Day was the catalyst for people to then bring the gifts and treats to the children in secret. (Why yes Virginia there is a Saint Nicholas, he's a masked priest tossing out pressies in the dark of night)
Pope Gregory the first came along around 590AD and in effort to reconcile the new celtic converts, local priests who at the time were in rebellion against the hierarchy of the catholic church and that same hierarchy......he had a "vision" of the "spiritual" birth of Jesus Christ falling on Dec 25th so that it was midpoint between the winter solstice on the 21st and the "Children's Day" on Dec 29. This new spiritual birthday was to include the Children's Day activities and the celtic practices of the decorating trees with fruits & nuts, yule log, parties going house to house singing songs etc.
The lighting of candles on the tree came about in the 16th century in Latvia and is rumored to have been done by Martin Luther for his children. This new tradition was picked up in the German populace and then brought to England in the early to mid 1800s by the royals, where upon it swept the brits as they emulated the royalty.
The traditions came to the U.S.A. by a number of European cultures and thus actually we began lighting trees a bit before England.
Why do I know these things? Simply put I have to defend the Christmas tree, gift giving and other stuff each year to grouchy, stingy people. I've found that if I bury them in information they give me a donation for the kids then go away never to fuss at me again.
Any one want to know about the origins of Halloween? *evil grin* -
It's a "Hanukkah" bush for pity's sake.....
I'm dropping off a load of lumber that could be made into Dreidels or into toothpicks.

Oh, if he doesn't like the job he can go else where.
That's like a Vegan getting a job at Black Angus and suing over the menu... -
You know the Christmas spirit is a lot more than about the birth of Christ, well since we made it that way. My point is that the "goodwill" and sharing gifts, food, and time with family and friends is just as important. All of the other holidays aside, Christmas is about the only time my family and my wife's family can all get together and enjoy each others company...without the drama.
Too bad that spirit doesn't last the rest of the year.
