If anybody is looking for a good flatbed job, try Bertis Carlson Trucking in Galesburg IL. They are a small outfit, I think we have 50 or so trucks. Its is all flatbed and stepdeck work. Hauling machinery and pre fab steel buildings is a large portion of their freight. Pay is percentage and works out to be pretty decent. They get you home weekly for the most part(I havent been out longer than 7 days at a time). The biggest reason I suggest them is the way they treat their drivers. Very easy going and supportive of drivers, just an overall pleasant place to drive for IMHO. Im not exactly sure of their hiring area but I live a hundred miles from the terminal and I bring the truck home with me, so it wouldnt hurt to call and ask. ALL of the drivers Ive talked with have been with them for many years and have no complaints. They also have a large trailer pool at the customers so it's a lot of preloaded drop n hook which is nice.

Are you still at Carlson and happy?
-
Sorry its a couple years late, but yes I am
-
I worked for them for a short time, they are nice people but the pay wasn't worth the trouble! Be a great starter company but I couldn't see making a career with them.
-
Things have changed there in the last year for sure
-
So whats going on? Got a couple of friends that went through there. One is fixing to move on.
-
I'm no longer there. Freight went downhill

-
I heard that they recently hired someone from SC and they have a big customer in Charlotte, NC.
-
I know nothing of a customer in Charlotte, may be new. I left in December 2016. Most of 2016 sucked. It's a nice company, just wasn't working for me anymore. Was there 6 years
pasmurf Thanks this.
